HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania woman is accused of locking her daughter in a car trunk while she visited her husband in prison.

The woman was arrested this weekend at a state prison about 95 miles east of Pittsburgh. State police say prison guards heard crying and yelling coming from the vehicle -- and found the 3-year-old girl in the trunk.

Police say the woman apparently locked her in after prison officials wouldn't let the girl enter because she wasn't on a visitors list. Police say the girl was in the trunk for about 40 minutes, but wasn't hurt.

The mother is facing charges of endangerment and attempted aggravated assault. The girl's been turned over to child welfare officials

they need to lock her in a trunk and leave her ther and see how she likes it. What in the world is wrong with people these days?? That just makes me sick to my stomach.

That poor little girl. :( How ironic it is that she was arrested at a prison.

Well....I think that little girl is very lucky! Very lucky that she was discovered before any physical harm had come to her(Although the emotional damage will probably stay with her a lifetime). AND...very lucky that she was taken out of that woman's custody while she is so young. Maybe now she will be able to have a better life, a life that doesn't involve going to prison to visit Daddy(if that man is her father). Just think, if the mother is cruel enough, and desperate enough to put her own child in the trunk of a car on a summer day so that she can visit this man in prison, you have to wonder how she treats this child in general. Yes, it's a terrible thing, what happened to this little girl, but the child is better off for it IMHO. If she didn't put this child in the trunk of that car that day, that child might have been able to be abused/neglected longer. If it had been anywhere other than a prison, where there wasn't close surveillance, you might have been reading that child's obituary. So, how I see it, that woman's stupidity just saved her daughter's life. I hope the mother gets punished severely for her action, and I hope that little girl will be placed somewhere where she can get the love, attention and nurturing that she deserves.

I agree with everyone on the locking the mom in the trunk.

Sounds like the prison dropped the ball too. Why didn't they question where the girl was if they had already refused her admittance, and let the mother in anyway?

(not siding with the mother, she was totally wrong, but the prison was at fault too)
