I took my CPR course today and boy am I mad. I had to scrape up 50 bucks just to take the dang course and as if that is not bad enough when I went to pay for the class I asked where we were meeting and the cashier said to go ask the adult re-education program. Sooo I did and while I was there she says oh here is the letter that tells everything you need to know, I was going to mail it out anyway so while you are here might as well take it...fine. As I am reading it, it says that we needed this mouth thing AND a REQUIRED book AND a pre-stamped envelope! Boy was I hot! The total for the book and mouth thing came to an extra 25$!!!!!! I picked my letter up this past Monday and the class is on Saturday (today) so it would not have gotten to me for atleast a couple more days after so like Wednesday or Thursday! They did not say ANYTHING about a book and a mouth thing on our papers we got or anything!! To top it all off we had to pay 50 bucks and they cannot afford to fork out 37 cents to mail our card to us! BOY WAS I MAD!!! 75 dollars for this class, plus I had to take a cab cause it started @ 8 so that is another 5 for a total of 80$!! In the letter it said we were supposed to read the text book and it was over 200 pages long! Most of it went into GREAT detail about strokes and heart attacks, but If you had not had A&P (which most in the class wouldn't because it isn't required for another 2 semesters) you would not understand hardly any of it. Thank fully I had. I had to use bill money to pay for that crap, and to top it all we did not even use the text book! :mad: :mad: :mad: It was a very hard class too. That is alright, because I did learn something and I have not had CPR for 15+ years, so it was good that I did have to take it. But Damn! They try to squeeze EVERY FREAKIN' PENNY they can out of you! They must think college students are just made of money! PLUS...every year I have to be recertified and go thru this crap again :mad: :mad: On top of it all my knees are KILLING ME from having to sit beside a dummy on my knees for 6 hours!
It will be worth it in the end..... (I am breathing).....It will be worth it in the end......

I know. I found out today my books for my classes this fall will total over $300. AND I have to pay for them upfront, instead of charging them and then letting finacial aid cover them when it comes in. I really dont knwo where Im going to find the money for this.
IM PROUD OF YOU THOUGH!!!!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) I know what you mean about the books, 300 bucks for a pile of paper that they will give you 2 cents for if you try to sell them back which they will in turn sell used for 250. You know it does not cost that much to make those books! I swear it is a conspiracy between the book manufacturers and the colleges! One of these days you will see on the news where a college student goes postal on the bookstore and we will all know why. :(

I'm sorry that it sucked so bad, but you should feel proud of yourself! {{{{{hugs}}}}}
Our local Parents As Teachers group paid for participating parents to take the Infant, Child, and Adult CPR classes as well as General First Aid. Anyone else wanting to get their training in might check into that, MUCH cheaper!

That really bites. The class that I took for school certifies me for 2 years. I won't need it again until I'm done with school, so I'm hoping where ever I get a job will pay for it next time.
It WILL be worth it! Hang in there!

Good grief. That is absolutley ridiculous. I have always took CPR through the fire dept. and it was free! Hang in there, in the end all this junk will be worth it!

You might consider not buying the book for the class until you are sure you will need it. Some teachers use the book and some don't and then you have this $85 book that you never open. Also go to the library and see if they have the library on the shelf before school starts. Then take the book out and just keep renewing it as long as you can. If you really do need the book after the first couple of weeks of class, then go buy it.
Too many classes insist that you buy books that you never really use. And you might want to check on line and see if you can get a better deal. Also, if you can buy a book off of someone who had the class the semister before, do it. You might want to post a notice saying that you are looking to buy such and such a book used. Someone took that course and they will sell you the book. Offer half the retail and save yourself some money.

If it's anything like my school, it's very, very hard to get used books for nursing classes. Seems like people usually hang on to those for reference or whatever. Plus, they change the nursing books so often that half the time they won't buy them back b/c they can't be used by the school.

Thank you guys for all of your replies. Sorry I didn't reply to you guys sooner. wE got our internet shut off on Saturday and now we won't be able to afford to turn it back on for ATLEAST a month :( I am at the college right now using their 'puter. They sometimes have used books, and they did have a slot for used books for this class, but they did not have any in. I had to open the book cause they said it was required in the letter I got that we had to read it before the class starts.

I know! The state only requires every 2 years but our school requires every year! I think it is a way to squeeze more money out of us, cause to be recertified it costs 35$! :rolleyes:
Thanks again for all you guys replies, and I will try to post as much as I can until we get it turned back on. :)
