UCK! UCK! UCK! Just had to say that. After a almost a year of being out of work because of medical problems, I am finally ready to go back to work, and now the problem is, no one in my area seems to be hiring. I live in a small town in Mississippi near Memphis and used to commute to Memphis but the stress on myself and my older car was too much, so now I am confined with staying in town.

I have tried find oppertinitys to work from home and all have ended up being MLM and scams, I have signed up for mystery shopping and everything else I can get my fingers on...I dont know, it is just SOOOO hard not to get discouraged, I am finally feeling better but the stress is giving me headaches that are turning into migraines. I have put in applications everywhere I can think of, and now I am at a dead end. Next week the bills will start coming in *sigh*

Do you live near Tunica? There are plenty of casinos in that area & I'm sure they're always hiring for various positions.

You may want to try calling your local Man Power office. They will help you to find a job.

Have you considered trying the temp agencies? Sometimes a temporary job can turn into a permanent position.

School will be starting next month. You may want to apply to be a substitute teacher. It's something until a better job comes along. I subbed some years back & I was called 2 or 3 times a week.

Keep looking and just start going from place to place and fill out applications. That means every place from small offices to businesses. Someone is going to hire but sometimes you have to put yourself out there. The odds are in your favor that you will find a job. And job hunting is a game of odds. The more apps and resume's out there the better chance you have that someone will call and interview.

I'd do what SCHSA suggested, first make out your resume, Go to one place and make out an application, take an extra sheet of paper with you! On this keep track of where you went, the day you put the application in. If you don't hear back in a few days, go back again. I've read where some people get jobs only because of pestering the general manager or boss. There are pizza places, MacDonalds, Jack in Box, etc everyplace, they always need people. It's tough hope you find someting soon. My thoughts are with you!!!

Hi there, another small town MS resident here. And I agree with what schsa and squirt have said. Just want to add one more thing, don't just go back, call them. If you haven't heard anything in a few days, call them. And keep calling until you get a definite answer. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. And it will show them that you are persistent and you are really looking for work. I know it can be discouraging, but persistence pasy off. I was out fo work for a month when I moved here. It is also very good advice to go to the temp agencies, that's how I got my job. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!!!!

Too funny, I am originally from Memphis and was just about to write that. I guess it depends on how you feel about the casinos, but I have several friends who work there and love it. Heard it pays well too.

I use to manage a large temp agency and I'll tell you that 5 out of 10 jobs go permant. Which is always a good thing! Also a phone call is a great way for the person to remember you. I actually hired a guy once because he had a great resume but unlike the other canidates he called ever 3 days to check the status so his name was always on my mind. Also if you get an interview always send a thank you card. It shows your genuine and that your are kind hearted. Good luck hun!
