I like them too. Looking into lessons. The pipes themselves are expensive, but practice chanters are usually under $20. some bands will teach you free if you intend on joining when your skill allows.

and if i cant find a group, maybe i can find an individual and we can work a trade. sax lessons for pipe lessons.

Love them! My husband and I had a bagpiper play at our wedding, that was our ceremony music. The college we went to was founded by Scots, so the band has a bagpipe and drum corps and the entire band wears kilts- very cool! They start home football games by having the pipers lead the team down a hill and onto the field.

Speaking of what's under a kilt... have you heard the Dr. Demento song about the Scotsman? LOL.

Love them...we buried Daddy in his Kilt...he used to take me out to Anaheim Hills (way back when there was NO houses there) and played them for hours. He also played in the Highland Games while I danced. He played at many funerals as well. To this day, I cannot listen to bagpipes without a smile and a tear.

I love em, but the only time that I have heard them is at funerals. Now I associate them with that-always makes me cry. What movie were they playing them during someone's funeral march?

Oh yeah! Backdraft?

Oh they bring me back to my days in band. Our high school was Highlands High. Part of our band uniform was a Scottish sash and we were lead into parades or some football games by a group of bagpipe players. We loved it. DOn't know if the crowds liked it or not. If I close my eyes I can hear the cadence we marched to with them!!!

I like em...I worked at a renaissance faire one year at a kilt shop (fun stuff:D ) and every morning before the gates opened we'd hear the bagppipes playing "amazing grace" and the star wars theme:)

I agree with Ladytiger. Initially I associated bag pipes with funerals and crying big tears.

Then, we have this Scout March/Parade each spring in Springfield, Illinois. The Abraham Lincoln Scout March, which is the second largest in the world for Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, and various youth clubs from all over the world that begins at Abraham Lincoln's Tomb and ends at the Illinois State Capitol. Bagpipes now play and it is so uplifting, but still makes me cry.

Interesting poll.
