We are taking our 6 yo Grandson tent camping. The questions I've been getting are so funny.
"Are you taking the microwave?"
"how can we cook with no electricity?"
"Will I see a Jaguar?"
And the all important "Are you bringing marshmellows?"
Going to be an interesting week-end

Good luck! Tell us how it goes, my 7yo wants to go camping but I don't think he understands the fact that he can't play his playstation in the wilderness, lol.

I love camping, I've been doing it since I was a few months old! He'll have a blast as well. Yet to this day I don't take a radio or anything electric. I love feeding the skunks & racoons too.....they just love marshmellows.

It will be great. We took my 4 year old when she was two. The only time we had a problem was when we went to bed. Every little sound she jumped and wanted to know what it was. LOL:D :D

Ha! We attempted to take our son camping when he was 4 and lets just say it was'nt a good idea.:) We had some friends camping and we went along.Everything was fine until he was ready for bed.He cried and raised 9 kinds of you know what...he was not sleeping in a tent and he wanted to go home! We had to pack everything up and head home at midnight. I kinda felt sorry for the little guy,he was not used to being away from home and sleeping in a tent.Anyway,he says he would like to go camping now that he is 6,but we have'nt attempted it yet.:D Hope you have a great time! :)

we took our 3 kids camping this past weekend for just 1 night and it was great. My kids are 8,4 and 18 months. My 8 y/o complained the whole time, but other than that it was good. I dont think you'll have a problem with your little one. Take a few toys, and he should be happy. We may go again this weekend for 2 nights and then labor day weekend, we are taking them for 4 or 5 nights. THAT should be interesting!!!lol

that would be the day that I would give in to a child over where he would sleep. By doing that, he will never be a good camper & ruin it again if he doesn't like something. He would have slept in the tent or the vehichle but there is no way I would have packed up & left.

There were a few things my daughter was scared of too when it was a 'first time' experience yet she survived & has become quite the camper (& other things now), she thanks me for making her go through things now & she is repaying me back by giving me a grand kid to start taking camping very soon!

My inlaws took all 4 of mine to Lake Chelan last year for a week. I don't think they will ever do it again! :D But, it wasn't my kids's fault my inlaws just don't understand little kids.

I think your grandson will have fun! There are so many new and interesting things for them to find in the woods.

Be careful if you're going on the eastern side. Those fires worry me. And most of all have fun!!!!

We've been taking our kids camping since they were little. They love it so much. They ask constantly when we're going to be going again. I think it helps that my in-laws own a woods that we go to ALOT. They know what to expect. Its great watching them exploring and enjoying nature. We have a blast everytime we go. :)

I hope you have great time camping with your grandson. :)

You'll be right near me then! Actually it is about 40 miles from my house, but close enough!

Have fun! I love Mt. Rainier. We go to Paradise, it is so pretty. Don't know how long you will be there, but if take the highway towards Elbe there is the coolest place called Iron Dan's. This guy makes the neatest sculptures out of scrap metal.

Went last fall with all the grandkids and had a great time.

As for being near you, you posted one time you had gone to Super Mall (think that's what it's called). We were at the Muckleshoot Casino at the same time and their pretty close to each other

That is a funny coincidence that you were at the Muckleshoot and I was at the SuperMall.

We keep saying we are going to go to the train ride in Elbe and for some reason we never make it. Have you eaten at the restaurant there that is in the old train? It is a little pricey, but they have nice sized portions and the food is good. Plus, how often do you get to eat in a train? Iron Dan is only 7 miles outside of Elbe. You have to go right past it to get to the mountain.

When you are up this way, stop at a Wendy's for discount coupons to Northwest Trek. They have buy one get one free.

Have a fun trip!

We actually ate on the Spirit of Washington dinner train several years ago. DH is a train buff. Last year we stayed in a caboose train resort in CA. There was also a restraunt here made from old dinning cars that we've eaten at

I want to go on the Spirit of Washington for my anniversary this year. I can't remember the name of the restaurant in Elbe. Of course you can't miss it there isn't much to Elbe. There is a hotel in the train next to the restaurant. My kids thought that was cool.

Hopefully it will stay nice and not be too hot. I can do without this heat we keep getting.

We went on the Spirit for our Anniversary. We did the Saturday brunch as in Nov it gets dark so fast and you can't see much scenery.

How funny. My anniversary is in November also. So, I guess we better go on the brunch one so we can see the sights.

Ours is the 28th.

Hopefully it won't get too hot on Saturday. If it does I told the kids we could pop into the Science Center for a while to cool down. And there is always the fountain. They love to get wet in that.

Well that is the difference between me and you.I was not going to make him stay and him begging and crying to go home.In my opinion,he does'nt have to like camping if he does'nt want to.It is not something we do alot of.No,I would not put him in the car and leave him.He turned out just fine and I don't think I have to worry about him spoiling anything for anyone. He is a very sweet child and for the record, not a spoiled little brat.
