I have had it up to HERE with AOL! I set up my daughter an account of her own. She has a Kids Only screen name and is only supposed to be able to get e-mail from people I put in her address book. Apparently that's not the case! She signed on last nite that she had 16 e-mails in one day ranging from bisexual females to enlarge your penis. I am about to call AOL and tear them a new A$$. Before anyone even starts flaming me my fiancee was right there when she signed on and was able to delete them before anything disastrous happened. It just pi$$es me off that she is getting e-mail from people she does not know. If I wanted that to happen I would have given her an adult screen name, not a kids only! UGH!

OK, I just went to the parental control settings in my AOL account. Apparently when the account is set up it is set to receive e-mail from anyone. You have to customize it if you only want them to receive e-mail from certain people. I also blocked them from all chat rooms, that was not done automatically either. IMs were blocked but not chat and e-mail. That makes no dang sense. I swear when I set up the accounts it said that she could only get e-mail from people in her address book or something like that. Anyway, I am a little calmer now (but not much) and have both of their accounts the way I want them. Sometimes we can not be there every second they are online.

That is so wrong. Who are these people sending out the porn stuff anyway? According to my inbox, I could be having an active social life by joining several online dating sites, enlarge my mammary glands as well as genitalia I don't own, see Jennifers web cam (tee hee, she is so innocent), have access to several sites that offer immoral acts... don't these people have mothers? I can't block it all because some of them come up with ----@lcklskjf.com addresses and just change it. I would ream aol out.

OMG! I know what you guys mean about the porn. I get all the emails too! I hate it! I'll be looking at a normal web site and get pop ups for porn. How do you stop it? A friend of mine was searching for "chocolate chip cookie receipies" (sp?) and she came up with porn site! Now how does that happen? I wish all them porn people would just respond to people who actually go to their sites!

Sorry have to add... didn't mean to take over your thread.
Glad your 6 yr old didn't actually see any of that crap!

My dog was getting e-mails on refinancing her house. If they can send mail to a dog, then they can get it past the screens to send porn. There should be some filter settings that need to be put in place. Once thats done, the offending mail should stop.

I'd also run your virus scanner and download ad-aware. Here's the gist of my conversation with AOL when this started happening to me:

If ANYONE is my household EVER has visited a porn site (either on purpose or accidently) then it is very likely that these sites have placed either a cookie or some sort of spyware on your computer. When you boot back up and go out on the net, there are programs that search for these things and gather names so that they can send their email. It is very unlikely that the email originates from AOL, in fact, I kept recieving porn from MY own YAHOO account sent to MY AOL account! Also, many of these guys use lists they've bought from legitimate sources and they also just send out computer generated lists. For example, the computer will send the same mail to all permutations of "John" including John1, John2, Johnny, Johnna, Johnb, etc. until they find one that doesn't bounce back. THEN they add the non-bounced ones to their "list" to sell to other spammers/porners.

Since I live with 4 guys, and we all share a computer, I'm POSITIVE that someone is visiting the "naughty" sites. However, they're computer dweebies and when you check cookies, I can SEE the sites they visit even though they SWEAR that they don't (ha ha- but since they're adults, I can't say anything). I just clear cookies, cache, run virus, and run adaware, and the porn stops for about a week or so.

Please explain how to do this in plain simple terms a "complete computer dweebies" like me can understand.

I think it's a lose lose situation with the porn emails. I recieve them all the time in my hotmail, and ocassionally in aol but rarely. As someone stated your name is being sold, and these idiots get this list and send it anywhere. I do run spyware, delete cookies, reboot to delete cache. It's just a uphill battle to get these predators to stop sending dirty emails and solicitations.

Also being that we are all freebiehunters, it makes it hard for us not to give out info doing certain deals. And even if you opt out, somethings still bound to pop up in your emails.

Ok, call me stupid, but WHY did your dog have an e-mail address?

Im with M.L.Geyser on this one, I can see or do anything I want, all according to the SUBJECT line of these emails I get. I do mass deletions everyday, several times a day.

ANd I bet Miss Jennifer with her Webcam isnt as innocent as she claims!

I see the trolls are hard at work again.
I would say something really rude right about now, but you see, I am still a member and have friends here, and you are well, BANNED! LOL I guess that is justice enough for me.
