How to design a website?

Help.....I really need to get a website going for a gospel quartet group. We already have the domain name but I don't have the cash to pay a designer the big bucks to get it designed. I have researched and the more I learn the more I feel overwhelmed.
This is for a great group but my husband has fully supported it and he is pretty tied up right now. Any advice?

When I put my first website up i used www.homestead.com and it was really easy. It is 9.99 a month (I think)
