I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha and it is lovely. If you read this and loved it, please recommend other books to me. I've also loved Tara Road by Maeve Binchy and Chocolat by Joanne Harris. I'm nearing the end of Memoirs and want something else to read!

Thanks,
Karie

I read it, probably three years ago. Liked it.

Other books I've read recently (or not recently, lol) that I liked and reccomend:

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory (Historical)

How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents and the sequel Yo! by Julia Alvarez

The Summer Country by James A. Hetley (Fantasy)

Howard's End - E.M. Forster - the book was much better than the movie!!

One Thousand Chestnut Trees by Mira Stout - really, really good, highly recommended

I have a Book Nook thread somewhere around here for that reason. Lemme see if I can find it.

I enjoyed Memoirs too, thought it was very well written and a fascinating story.

Right now I'm reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods for the second time. It's a really terrific book, I highly recommend it.

And I just finished a collection of short stories by Roald Dahl called Tales of the Unexpected. He's better known for his children's books (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.) but he also wrote a lot of short stories for adults. Surprise twist endings and a macabre sense of humor, I loved them. Some of his stories were adapted for the original Twilight Zone and the Alfred Hitchcock tv series, which should give you a good idea of what they're like!

I read White Oleander years ago and didn't care too much for it. I'll definitely try Roald Dahl though!

I read Memoirs of a Geisha and I thought it was great. The only thing I have read lately besides Ann Rice is a book called "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. It was really good, it tells the story of a young girl's view of Heaven and what happens to the people she knows and loves after she dies.
