Since the previous owners of my house painted the kitchen cabinets it looks like in order to spruce them up I will have to repaint them.
Stripping down to the bare wood and restaining is out of the question as we have tried this already. And was not a good thing.
So...at this time we have redone the kitchen floor with tile (light grey/white in color) and plan on having the countertops a medium or dark grey and stainless steal sink.
Any suggestions of colors that will look decent. (The Cabinets are currently forest green)

What colors do you like Kevin? What kind of accents too. For instance, I have blue and white now, with cherries for an accent.

Not totally sure. I do know that I want to get away from dark/forest green. And would like to try to lighten up the room more as it is only a 10 by 8 kitchen.

Perhaps I should find a borderpaper that I like and work with the colors from that and perhaps accent on the cabinets to a lighter color. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm................

You could do a light wood brown and make them look like they are wooden. Our you could just reface them if you could afford that. Don't know what it costs though.

I would love to get the cabinets to look wooden but refacing is about as costly as replacing the cabinets with new ones.

I always liked burgundy with gray. I think the idea of going with the color of your accessories or your border would be a great idea.

We are getting ready to redo our cabinets too. They have several layers of paint already on them so stripping is really not an option. There is layer of stain, layers of white paint and 2 coats of country blue that we painted when we moved in. A professioal painter told us that we could first off paint the cabinets with Kilz, next there is a stain that can be used over kilz, it is Minwax, Polyshades (He says this is the best one to use). And then we bought the tool that you use to put the wood grain look back into the stain. We haven't actually started it yet as I have a big kitchen with numberous cabinets (16 top, 11 lowers, and 14 drawers) and we have had a very busy week. I do know that in the mobile home we own that we are redoing we stained over top of kilz and it looks pretty good. I guess we will be starting ours this coming week. Good luck with your project.

HEY!!! I WANT THAT KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What about white paint for the cabinets w/stainless steel hardware (to pull from the sink) or grayish color hardware to pull from the flooring? Bring in some color from your border into your window treatments and kitchen rugs if you have them, also tablecloths/napkins/placemats/kitchen towels.
