We had friends over for dinner (well they just showed up to do the whole well wishing thing after my surgery and hubby entertained them and I cooked a little something to keep from being rude). Well I had just bought brand new silverware. I bought Oneida cause it's the name I always grew up w/. Aside from the fact that I HAVE known the name all my life and know they've been around for a while, they aren't just 'flat pieces of metal' (I'm finicky, I detest just flat utensils, I like 'em to have a good sturdy handle), and even by wal-mart standards they are NOT cheap (I payed 38 dollars for a 4 piece setting of the 18/8 wheat style Oneida). Well our friends said they'd read somewhere (couldn't quote us where) that all silverware unless silver is bad for you and can over time cause lead poisoning... I've looked everywhere... does anyone know if there is ANY truth to this or just some corporate hothead trying to make more money off selling 40 dollar silver spoons? Either way, I've used Oneida all my life, if I'm not dead now I'm not too worried... but what is your opinion on the best brands of silverware?
