Small whine, but one of our cats always pees by the litter box, never in it. We always blamed it on our male because he did it as a kitten, but I just caught Princess peeing behind it! My own baby. :(

Anyone have any idea why she is doing this? She is 12 and has always been litter trained.

ADDED vent: 1 hour till garage sale and sister whome did no work at all is still in bed, garage unfinished, and she was going to get 25% for helping. I've been up since 5 AM people..... I'm sleepy. :(

I'd throw some cold water on her and tell her to get her BUTT up and help!
as for the cat... I dunno, my cat did this when we changed litter, so we went back to the regular stuff.

sister gets nothing...I am mean just plain mean if you don't help you don't get paid.

kitty, I don't have a clue. Maybe if they are using the same litter box she is getting a little finnikey (spelling???) in her old age? Good luck

maybe she doesn't like the smell of the other cat, or maybe the liiter needs changed? Cat's won't go in dirty litter...or at least mine was that way.

Sometimes cats will start peeing where they aren't supposed to when they have a medical problem. Might want to have her checked out by the vet.

They also do it for spite! How long have you had the other cat? Have you left her alone at all lately? Good Luck!

My 12-year-old cat peed outside the litterbox and it turned out she was diabetic. I would look into taking the cat to the vet if it becomes a regular occurance.

My old lady cat urinates on our bed sometimes. I took her to the vet & she has polynephritis. I am now giving her fluids subcutaneously & am going to have to give her antibiotics (probably for the rest of her life!) I would take her to the vet ASAP!:)

Well I am no vet, but I am pretty sure 12 is old age for a cat. They are no different than humans. Could be a long list of health problems. Just like humans though, the older we get the harder it is to move, she might be having problems getting into the litter box. Is it the kind that is covered? Was wondering because those are harder to get into. I would say it is definately a health issue, after 12 years I doubt your cats just rebeling, lol. I would take her to the vet ASAP if I were you. Hope you find out what the problem is :(

She was at the vet a few months ago because they required a full exam before we could put her in there for three days while our house was tented for termites. I just don't get it, nothings changed at all, we have had the other 2 cats for at least 5 years. I think it may be the cat outside making her nervous, we have had an orange male living in our yard for the past week or 2 and all it does is meow and sit by the window. I think it's homeless, come to think of it, havn't seen it today at all . That is all I can think of, could that be it? Maybe it's time to take her to the vet again.

Oh, and as for the garage sale, darling sister made a whopping $4 for the time she spent sitting on her butt while me and Jaime shopped at others garages :D. In all, we only made about $18 :(, then again I sold practially everything for a quarter. All in all, I'm happy.

Thanks for the help.

She also might be peeing outside the box because the smell is there. Even a female cat will get that way. And once the smell is there they will keep going there. It might help to get something that removes the odor. Most pet stores have something, the best stuff has enzymes that eat the bacteria that cause the smell. I wish I could remember the name, but I do know it comes in a white gallon bottle with green writing on it.
