Can anyone living in Iowa or knowing Iowa laws tell me where to find information on minors moving out on their own. If they can without parental consent and all that kind of stuff.
Thanks:)

not sure if this is helpful... but looks like a child would have to be legally emancipated or the parents would have to sign custody over to someone else.
Yep..has to be at least 16 and emacipated or parents have to assign guardianship.
Oh, and you have to prove to the courts that minor would be better off without guardianship. VERY hard to do.

You cannot sign a contract unless you are at least 18 in most states. Which means you can't buy a car (on credit) on your own, rent an apartment, or have a credit card without a co-signer. Even as an emancipated minor you might not be eligible to sign contracts and some places just won't let you period. They don't want a 16 year old with their own apartment. And how can you be sure that this person can pay the electric bill, phone bill, and the numerous other things that we as adults take for granted.
As an emancipated minor, you have to be pretty independent and be able to support yourself. This doesn't happen very often and getting that status with everyone involved who has to sign your emancipation is very, very difficult.
