I had cervical spinal fusion surgery on April 24th. Two herniated disks were removed and a titanium plate screwed in with 6 screws. It's been painful to say the least. I started physical "therapy" (torture) on Monday June 2. The therapist asked me how long I was having trouble with my shoulder and neck hurting......I told her that since I had the surgery, I've been having alot of muscle pain....she looks at my back and says "Oh, they must have gone in from the front...because I don't see anything back here!" Don't they look at your chart before they manhandle you??? I lay on my back while she proceeds to do DEEP tissue massage on my shoulder and kneading the back of my neck HARD....I can hardly lay still and say OWWWWWW that hurts!!!!!!!! She said "It doesn't hurt, it feels good!"
Then she puts me on my back and grabs my neck from the back pushing it all the way to one side, then the other. I've had a migraine since, and can barely move my head to each side. Called them back and cancelled my appt. for today. She tells me it couldn't be from the therapist.....it is because my necks muscles aren't used to being used!!!!! I feel like crying.....I have 5 more appts. to go. And I found out I have a defect in my LUMBAR spine...something called spondylolisthesis. I need a Lumbar fusion with cages and screws and rods. I'm a wreck from top to bottom! LOL And already feel like I've been hit by a semi from my first P.T. visit!!.

Thanks for letting me vent :) While I can't be here too often, I think this site is AWESOME!!

I understand your pain so well. I've had two surgeries in 3 yrs. the cervical fusion w/hardware and the lumber surgery (diskectomy(sp). I still have tremendous pain. That therapist should not have treated your neck like that. The therapy hurt me so bad I could not bear it. I am now going to a pain clinic and taking pain meds and getting epidural injections probably for the rest of my life. Good luck

You poor thing, I feel so sorry for you. I can't even begin to imagine the pain you must be in. My lower back goes out on me sometimes and I know how bad that hurts. I don't know how you can stand the pain. I know it must be thousand times worse. I hope you can get some relief soon{{{{{{{jucyrdappl}}}}}}}}}}

Sorry you are going through so much...When I broke my back I refused Physical therapy. It would have done more harm than good. IMO A lot of those therapists manhandle people.

Hope everything gets better for you.

i am going thru p.t.now or was. after today no more for me.i swear i hurt worse now than when i started. my doctor wanted me to go because of my sciatica. now i think i will go thru pain management first.i think those people i went to enjoyed me yelling out in pain.i complained about my nerves hurting and they said they will relax my muscles first then start on the nerves.wth i said my nerves hurt more than my muscles.that is why i am not going back they will not listen or do anything for my pain.oh one other thing they put you on timers when they want you to do a particular excersize.wiat a minute here i am not a piece of meat or vegetable that when the timer goes off you turn me over or do another excersise.

Oh boy, no fun! I did 12 months of therapy, and I threatened to punch her when she would kneed me like dough, knowing how bad it hurt. When I go for the spine surgery, I hope I do not get a physical therapist that is a part time torture queen!
Hope you feel better! Hang in there!

LOL I go to the NEW St. Joseph's Building on Highway100 right past Bluemound. If you happen to go there, they are NOT all bad! Just seems it DOES matter who you get!
