ok am driving home from a town that is an hour away and I see these 2 vans slow down then see a horrible sight..... I saw a doe in the vans headlights squirming and trying to get up. It was in bad shape. I was on the opposite lanes and started to cry then thought that I should go back to see if he was "put out of his misery" then said naaa they will do it. Then thought a second later that I need to make sure. I don't know why but I needed to go see and check it out. To my horror I only saw a pickup truck in the ditch! There were no vans to be seen!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked the guy in the pickup what was going on and he said he tryed to hit it to kill it but it somehow got away and he was stuck in the ditch. Well another couple stoped and let him use their phone to call a tow truck and they had a shot gun to kill it too. So I waited from what seemed to be the longest ten minutes of my life. It was stuggling in the ditch and I honestly wanted to love him up (I know I didn't, but I wanted to). The guy finally got there and the shot was very loud and final, but the poor deer was in no more pain. I am still crying over this. My hubby hunts (I don'y like it) but kills them quick. This poor animal was left to feel horrible pain while the van that hit him left. I am so upset I am going to write to the newspaper and thank the kind man who saved the deer from it's pain and publicly berate the driver of the van for just taking off without making sure it was dead! yes if the deer would have been able to leave I would say no to following him but this baby couldn't even get up with it's legs being broken. Ok you can say I am sensitive but I think this driver was a well.... I can't post what I think of him/her! I will never get the view of that poor deer being in so much pain out of my head. I hate people sometimes. This was not just a deer this was a life that was hurting! At least call the police if you can't hang around!! ty for letting me vent.

OMG, this makes me so sad... I am a big softy like you. You might of read my thread a while back regarding my cat. Well, we went back for his 2 week check up and he has a bit of blood in his urine...*sigh* Luckily it's only 1 on a scale of 5 or 6 I think, so this means very little at all but still I started crying again today. 2 more weeks of antibotics for my Dusty-Cat and then we will see what's going on again.

I'm sorry you had to see that!Hubby is a park ranger. He gets calls to do this all the time. There is no reason to leave it like that. If you can't stay call the police and they will send an officer, call parks, or the local SPCA.

Something like that happened to my ex's father. He worked for ODOT ( Ohio ) and someone hit a dear and took off. He called his supervisor for permission to bring it home after he used the gun he had in the truck for reasons just like that.
