View Full Version : Frustrated!

This is my first post in Vent/Whine, so please don't flame me! :)
So here's why I'm so frustrated----
I work for a small company that has been struggling financially for quite a while. I love my job---as in I love what I do---there are no boundaries on what I can/can't do. The only limitation is the number of hours in the day and my desire to pitch in. So after over 3 years I've gotten lots of exposure to many different functions and situations.
Now that the future of my current job looks bleak I've decided to seek new employment. The problem is that I don't seem qualified to do any job because I don't have solid experience in one specific position. I'm very intelligent, a great work ethic, fast learner, all those positive traits, but it seems like in this job market no company so far as been willing to give me a shot to prove myself.
I know that I should go back to school---I really want an MBA in organization development and strategy. But I just can't shake the idea of going into debt for it.
Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I know that it could be a whole lot worse, but I'm just feeling blue today.
Thanks for listening.

I have no idea what your financial situation is, but you can get government grants to pay your tuition and you don't have to pay them back like a student loan. Look into it at your local library!
Good Luck!

sell the varied background and experience as your strength, not a weakness. it shows that you're a quick learner, adaptable, enjoy change, and are constantly having to think in new, creative ways.

GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!! I got my Master's Degree when I was 37 years old. Having it opened so many doors for me. Plus...it didn't matter what the degree was in (Human Resources for me)...what mattered was that I had it.
As for the debt...even if you have to pay it all back...the interest rate is very low and you have a long time to pay it back. It is definitely worth.

I can't say anymore than what these ladies have already said. I can give you hugs and *smooches* though. ;) Actually, I'm 48 years old and am presently looking for a part-time job. I haven't been in the work force in a few years and I am getting a little frustrated myself but I know that there's someone out there that will hire me. I'm like you, somewhat versatile which IS a plus! It's just a matter of finding someone that will give us a chance. That person is out there. Hey, who wants to hire a 48 year old that hasn't worked in about 4 years? ;) LOL Ahhhhh....but the opportunity is there and we just can't give up. I can give you a list of online job seeking sites if you're interested. My job coach gave me this list that he uses and I was amazed at how many there are. If you want this list, please e-mail
[email protected].
If you do have the opportunity to go back to school then by all means go!!! Education is VERY important nowadays. There are ways of avoiding a huge debt as some of the ladies above have mentioned.
Please don't give up!! I'm rooting for you!!:D

Don't give up whatever you do - something will come along. I know when I was looking for a job one time it took so long that I would just cry after another failed interview.

You are exactly the type of person I look for when I am hiring. Someone who is highly flexible, who can quickly adjust to a changing situation and can step in without hesitation.
Personally, I like hiring people like you because I know that you are very trainable and will be easy to teach. You lack fear and that's a big plus.
Don't sell yourself short. Flexibility is what makes you attractive to an employer. Sell it. You are going to find that job you just haven't found the right employer.

Big hugs and smooches to all of you guys. Thanks for all the positive feedback. I guess the frustrating part is that it's just slapped me in the face that I have to get a new job---we're missing payroll now. So I don't have a choice-as much as I love my job.
I need to look into school more seriously, as I know that it will open doors for me. Looks like I might have the time to do it very soon.
Thanks again!

((((Japanesewhisper))))) I just wanted to wish you good luck in your job search. I am sending you good vibes your way. If you do go back to school talk to the financial department they can help you get the grant information. I went back with the help of the pell grant. That pays a good portion of your tution and books. You will find the right job.
