it was soo bad my dh had to cut the band off her and it was in to her skin..i called the vet..they say bag balm..and give her anitiboiotics..but i want to bust my kids @ss..what wree they thinking?? i got angry and told them..she has feelings..she hurts and you guys are the cause of it..so leave the dog alone. ive petted her and her hair is soooo thick..i nver even felt it. im angry at myslef for not noticing it..but shes a black fuzzy doggie..maybe 8 monhts old and sweet..even when joe was messing with her never made a move to bite or growl or anything. but i am sure gonna keep an eye on her..adn the other dog..and the kids. i thought they only put her hair up..shes got such long thick hair you cna put it in to a top knot..but now..no more beauty salon with the dog.no matter how sweet seh is....geezze...

my kids are 5, 6, and 11. im betting it was the 5 yr old..she likes to dress things up..the kittens.and the cat..but usually the puppy just gets a tee shirt. poor dog. no wonder she ran away from home..if i was lakota..id run too. i just never thought that she would do somthing like that..ive told her over and over not to put anything around their necks..cause thy could strangle them..i guess she didnt listen. :(

Sounds like you need to keep a closer eye on your puppy.

I think that remark was kind of hurtful. I think the OP realizes that she does, but just because she didn't notice it doesn't mean she is a bad pet owner. Things happen...My dog is a full blown diabetic and he lost so much weight, he had to wear a cat collar. However, to keep it on him when we walked, we had to put it on the last hole. I put it on him and I had no idea it would be too tight on him. When I took it off of him, he was pretty "rug burned". You live and learn. I put some bag balm on it and after a week, he was just fine.
Mistakes happen. The OP realizes she can't trust her kids with the dog. Hey, at least it happened now, instead of when the he isn't a puppy and might have nipped the kids..

All I meant was that with young children, it should be a given that their play with a young puppy be more supervised. Not to mention she said the puppy ran off for something like a week.
I am sorry if it was hurtful; I meant it more as a common sense idea. It sounded to me like the puupy is not being watched as carefully as one should watch a puppy.

My daughter is guilty of this also. A few years ago she dresses up her long haired cats tail with hair scrunchies, barrettes etc... Well poor guy ended having one wrapped too tightly, we had to take him to the vet to have it cut off. He healed fine, and she never, ever did it again. I did see her do it, and Niko (her cat) seemed very happy to be her "model"...I never thought of a scenario happening like the one that did. She didn't mean to hurt him...she was just being a kid, and she felt so terrible about it.

we live out in the country ..we let our dogs run free here because there was a murder in the town we are close to just a few months ago. we live 2 miles from town. we also have neighbors with dogs who come to "play" here with our kids..so its not unfeasible our dogs go down there..i hadnt noticed the colar on the band..she isnt an inside dog..only an 8 mo old outside mutt type dog with long hair and thick fur. my 11 yo is resposible for making sure she gets fed. i look out and see that the dishes aer filled..see the dog in the yard..what else can i do? its not like i thought something was wrong.she comes when called.doesnt whine..or pull at her neck. its something i hadnt tnoticed when i ws petting her. i dont usually pick her up and run my hand under her colar. ive seen her this last week playing in the yard..petted her when i went to the car.she seemed fine. it was an accident. i know i was wrong to not pay more attention but ..she SEEMED fine. if she had acted funny..id have paid attention to that..but her laying down by the car..or comeing when called..or playing with the kids..is normal. so i thought she was ok. its not like i got her..and never saw her agian..ro made her look for food on her own. i gave her her shots..put her colar on her..and brush her out about 1 x a month..its been yucky and rainy here and shes matted so when i saw matting i didnt think much of it. its muddy and shes muddy..i just didnt think about that. i understand its my fault..but i dint mean for anyone to hurt her.

Really, I am sorry if I made you feel bad, and I hope now your kids understand not to do stuff like that.
As for the running away or visiting your pup does, I guess I never thought of it because letting your dog roam carries a big fine in Wisconsin. You are lucky to have neighbors that do not mind.
I hope your dog feels better and that you do too. Its obvious you care about your pup and I did not mean to imply that you did not, although I realize now that I was rather blunt. I am sorry.

I would be taking privileges away from all of your kids til the "do-er of the deed" fesses up. You know... NO tv, NO stereo, NO video games, stuff like that...
{{{{{cuddles for the pup}}}}} hope the pup is better soon!!!!

I don't think this is a case of kids being kids as the last person said especially if she already told the kids not to put things around the dogs neck. The children have been told and even the youngest at five, is old enought to understand that. Yes accidents do happen, but it is not accident if they willfully do something they were told not to. To often kids don't realize that they can hurt animals, we had a tough time with that and my ss. He was grounded from even touching the cats for a while because he couldn't play nicely. They have to be taught things and there is a bit more to this than dressing up the dog, one of them did something they had been told not to. But of course and as always, that is JMO.

1] it is HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE and ILLEGAL to allow pets to roam free. It is dangerous to the animal and the other animals and people he may come in contact with...
2] since you do allow him to roam, maybe it wasn't one of YOUR kids?? Maybe someone else did this?
