View Full Version : A small whine about taking my kids to the doc

It was time for their physicals.

Jaedon (my 5 year old) was awful. She acted really bad. The pediatrician thinks she might have ADD, so we are being referred to a developmental pediatrician. I was actually kind of glad the doctor saw how she acts, so she knew what I was talking about. Plus, she needs glasses so we are off to the eye doctor.

My 7 year old who I posted about yesterday having a blocked salivary gland isn't any better. Now they think it is a bacterial infection in the gland. She is allergic to all antibiotics so if it isn't better by tomorrow they will put her in the hospital and give her antibiotics while they monitor her. To top it all off, she has lost 6 pounds since last month. She doesn't eat hardly anything. She says her stomach hurts all the time. They gave her a Rx for Zantac and ran a bunch of blood tests. They think she might have an ulcer.

I have been at that medical building everyday this week and we are going back tomorrow for them to look at her infected gland and for my nine year old to see the orthopedist. They put her in a smaller cast the other day and now they think it might have knocked the bone out of alignment. I don't know how they fix something like that and she keeps asking me. I told her we would just have to see what the doctor says tomorrow.

Oh well at the cat is healthy, right!:)

Why is it that you go to the doctor feeling somewhat healthy and you leave a medical mystery! Well, at least everything can be fixed but I don't envy you having to take all of them to the doctor at the same time with this sort of results.

Do you need a hug? {{{{{Miccit}}}}}

schsa -- I can always use a hug! I think we all can. And ((((hugs)))) right back at you!

I am glad that it isn't anything serious. I am always thankful for that. :)

miccit, please, before you allow anyone to medicate your child for ADD or whatever, please get a second opinion, even after the developmental ped. The reason I say this, is a really good psychologist who examined my child for autism, told me that it is over diagnosed and over medicated, although there is the rare child that has ADD/ADHD, the main point is RARE. He also said that you cannot properly diagnose ADD until age 7 or 8. I am not bashing anyone here or anywhere. I know some kids have these conditions, but a lot who are being treated for it do not. Just be careful, thats all I ask.

I am not going to let them medicate her unless it is absolutely necessary. My son was diagnosed as having ADD and took Ritalin for a couple of years. Then all of a sudden they were like sorry it isn't ADD it is bipolar. I am going to do some research on ADD. I know there are some diets out there that supposed to help. And I heard flax seed oil is supposed to be good for ADD.

Thank you for your concern. Even my pediatrician said that meds were not a good idea, but that seeing the developmental ped would at least give us a diagnosis of something and that maybe they could help with her impulsiveness and behaviour.

Thank you! Alia is feeling a little better this evening. She looks like a hamster with it's little cheeks all full of food. But at least there is no fever. I am so glad for that.

We went back to the doctor today. Alia's infection is going away without antibiotics! YAY! Sera had to have her leg manipulated and put into a new full cast again. So she has 5 to 9 more weeks of a cast. It has already been 6 weeks tomorrow. The doc said it is because of where the breaks are. :( But she is happy cause she got a neon pink cast!:p

Thanks everyone for listening to me!
