My FIL said he had some Menudo but it made him sick. Said you have to be use to it, like have eaten it since childhood. His buddies were ok but they were use to it.
After looking at the recipe I think I'll pass. Calf's foot or pig's feet just doesn't sound appetising to me.

Maybe my FIL was just hungover but eating didn't help. He was told you have to be use to it.

 I TAKE OFFENSE TO THAT COMMENT.
THATS A VERY NARROW MINDED WAY OF THINKING.
FYI; YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE EATEN
MENUDO SINCE CHILDHOOD TO ENJOY IT.
I CAME INTO THIS THREAD (ORIGINALY) TO
SAY SUZZIQ03, TELL US HOW IT COMES OUT
& WHICH RECIPE YOU USED. I'M GOING TO
MAKE HOMEMADE POZOLE THIS WEEKEND FOR
THE FIRST TIME. MY SIL GAVE ME HER RECIPE.

ewww! It sounds gross to me, too and I used to eat this stuff! ROFL! I used to eat it as a child but one day it made me sick, that along with tripe and that was it for me. I haven't touched the stuff since. Actually, I don't find most animal products too appealing anymore. ssheesh! some Mexican I am! LOL My mom and FIL still cook menudo once in a while, but I just pick at the hominy.
forgot to mention, I'll ask around for a recipe. my mom just does things by memory so I'll see if she can give me one. :)

Sorry but I wasn't trying to make this a race thing. As I see it that is coming from you.
I just said what my FIL experienced. His friends and he ate it, they didn't get sick, he did. They were use to eating it, he wasn't. End of story. He was told you have to get use to it. Ask them about it.
My friend eats tongue sandwiches is Caucasian but if I ate it I'm sure I would get sick. Nothing to do with race just with what you are use to eating. She ate this from childhood. No thanks, I don't want any tongue, no pigs feet, no calf's foot, no mystery parts even though I may be eating them in hot dogs or McDonalds. At least I don't know it's in there. And I'm sure I eat some things you would go EWWWWW to but that's ok with me. When I worked with people from Thiland they hated the barbeque I bought for them. They hate sweet food. I didn't take offense cause they turned it down. Just was amused at our different tastes and I didn't like the squid they gave me. Not use to it.
If I was married to a Hispanic man like my frind is I would have to learn how to cook these foods but I'm not so I haven't gotten use to them. OKAY???

My husband would probably love this ... but, alas, I am not so adventurous as he. Truthfully it sounds awful but I imagine that some of the things I like to eat probably sound awful to those of other cultures. Hope you find a great recipe !!

Okay. I've had tongue, fried AND pickled, I've had pigs' feet, I've had pig snout, I've had heart, oxtail, brain, escargo, calamari, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, quail, raw fish (sushi), several different kinds of insects and a dozen other things I won't mention. I wasn't "used" to any of it. It didn't make me sick. Some I liked, some I loved, some I wouldn't try again if I were paid. 100% of trying *unusual* dishes is a mental thing. If you think you're going to hate it, you will. If you think you're going to ralph, you will. I'm Caucasian, nearly 50, although some of these things I ate when I was a teenager and first married. Others I tried over the past 30-40 years. TRIED. It wasn't forced down my throat.
HOW in bloody L this thread, asking for a simple recipe, turned into what some presume to be a race issue, is beyond my comprehension. Let's not turn it into some ridiculous argument here people. Okay?
Someone asked for a simple recipe for crying out loud. If you don't have the recipe, if the thought of the dish repulses you...exit stage left.
Now...
You put de lime in de coconut, drink dem bot togedder, put de lime in de coconut, den you feel bedder. :D

I totally agree. Maybe I should have asked what was meant by "some people". I've eaten raw fish too and am willing to eat some things and have, squid. Don't even go near my BIL, He only eats meat and potatoes. Can always find a Hardy's or "Wendy's when they go out of the country, even in Mexico. He is a very boring eater. I love Mexican food ok? Menundo ingredients sound like something I won't eat. If my FIL got sick eating it does that make him racist. I was just telling what happened to him. I was a funny. Laugh and go on please.

YOUR COMMENT LOOKS TO OTHER PEOPLE & HOW
IT CAN (& DID) OFFEND SOMEONE.
SHOULD THIS BE TURNED INTO A RACE ISSUE ?
NO.
SHOULD THIS TURN INTO AN ARGUEMENT ?
NO.
SHOULD PEOPLE SEE HOW WORDS CAN HURT & OFFEND
AND MAKE THEM THINK, BEFORE THEY POST?
YES.

Menudo is made differently depending on where your ansestors come from. Some put pigs feet, some use cabbage instead of lettuce. I sometimes add radishes. It all just depends. This is one of my favorite Mexican dishes. And I make is just for me. My ex liked it but my boys won't touch it. Current hubby doesn't like it either. Everyone is different.

I guess I don't understand. Which comment offended you and why were you offended? "Your comment". Who's comment? Please tell us. Like my hubby says, "I can't read your mind".

I had never had "real" mexican food til I moved here to AZ! Just the Taco Bell kinda stuff. Ones of my good friends here cooks for me & brings me lunch at work sometimes. She brought me Menudo on wed. It was ok, but I didn't think it was all that. She is a great cook tho, I love it when she brings me breakfast tho! YUM! (I usually don't know the names of the things she brings, but man they are good!)

My hubby and I ate at Carlos O'Kellys the other night right after this thread was posted and I asked the waitress if they had menundo. She said no. I asked her if she ever ate it and she said she had just been to Arizona and they had it where she was but she wouldn't eat it. lol
My hubby hates liver. He ate it and hated it. Well his aunt told him she would make him some and he would like it. She made it her special way and he still hated it. He told me never make liver and onions or I'll get sick. I know the doctors have said eating organ meat, especially liver, isn't a good idea cause that's where the animals toxins go.

Well, I don't know anything about Menudo but I've been told I toss a mean salad.
