Has anyone else had this problem????

When we lived in an aprartment we use to have the problem of "grit" covering our dishes. When we'd take them out after the wash & dry cycle the mostly black grit would be dried on the outside of glasses & anything else on the top rack. Sometimes on the bottom rack. For an unrelated reason our dishwasher was replaced with a new one, but we still had the same problem.

We've been in our new home for 3 years now and our dishwasher was brand new when we moved in. We didn't have the problem right away but lately it has gotten really bad. My son checked the load of dishes I washed last night & they were covered in the grit so he ran the dishwasher again and the same thing!!!!!

Anyone else have this problem?? It's really p*ssing me off. I just find it strange that it has happened to us in 2 different cities with 2 different new dishwasheres.

Anyone.......?????

If it's not the dishwasher, it could be the water or the dishwashing detergent you're using.

I got my hands on a dishwashing recipe once...IE: DO NOT USE BAKING soda in the dishwasher..lol..

I've tried different detergents with no difference :(

I don't know what could be causing it, but I have heard that running powdered lemonade mis through the dishwasher will get the grit off stuff.

Good luck!

Could it be related to the water in your area? I have had the same thing happen to me at various places throughout the years. I always thought it was a dirty drain trap at the bottom of the dishwasher, but it was not. It does not happen where I live now. So, I am wondering if it has to do with the pipes that lead to the dishwasher or the hardness of the water? Good luck.

Do you try and make sure all the dishes are clean of debris when they go in? I used to have that happen to but after i started REALLY rinsing my dishes it quit. It helps to use a rinse agent too.

Mine does that. It's so annoying.

not sure if this will help but i have a total el crappo dishwasher - had a repair guy look at it and he even said it is about the cheapest model out there. He suggested turing the water up to 140 so that it was sure to totally dissolve the powder - I did that for a month and my electricity went up way to much! So anyways once a month I use the automatic electrosol dishwasher cleaner - I don't get the grit you are describing but after a few weeks I get some sort of back wash stuff - the dishwasher cleaner is a good cure for a bit.

Maybe I'll try the dishwasher cleaner. Couldn't hurt. I am using a rinse agent and I'm also using Cascade which also has a rinse agent in it. I've also used the Cascade that dissolves food, but it didn't get rid of the grit.
I rinse most dishes good before putting them in the dishwasher but sometimes I don't feel like it. But it is not food that is sticking to the dishes....it's black grit.

ok, then someone answer my question, may be a dumb one?? I don't have the money right now to buy any dishwasher soap, do you think I could use a little of my liquid washing machine soap??

Try using a liquid detergent. Although the black grit doesn't 'look' like food - rinsing all dishes helps alot!

Give it some JetDry .. lol .. seriously I don't know why that is happening. I believe it happened at my dads in the past and he eventually replaced the dishwasher. You may want to buy the stuff you can use to clean your dishwasher out and see if it helps any.

DON'T use any soap in the machine beside dishwashing soap! You'll be sorry. It will bubble all over. My mom has done it in the past using only a little bit of dish soap .. big mess.

OH NO NO NO! You will have suds running out the bottom of your dishwasher and all over your floor even with a few drops. I speak from experience! ;)

There is a recipe to make your own soap for dishwashing detergent but I no longer have it computer crashed and lost all my favorites you might find it doing a search or I'm sure someone here has it. But last time I tried what you are suggesting it did not work just sent suds everywhere all around the kitchen and made a major mop job for me.

I haven't used a powder detergent in years. Even when I do rinse everything real good, it sometimes still happens. I think I will contact Whirlpool & see if they can tell me anything. Coudn't hurt *crossing fingers*

I am so happy I'm not the only person who has put regular dish soap in the dishwasher. :D My husband still makes fun of me for doing it!
