Hello everyone, you guys have always come through with my recipe questions so here's another one. Again I am in the Netherlands and there are lots of things that I have to make from scratch to make up for package mixes from home. My next venture is for Corn Dogs. I would like to know if anyone can help me out with a good corn dog batter recipe that is a bit sweet, or one that has jiffy corn muffin in the recipe and can tell me what is in the corn muffin mix. We don't have any type of corn bread mixes here and definitely no Jiffy, boohoo. My family here had never had corn dogs before and i want to make them great! Can any of you guys help me out? you can post here or email me at [email protected] Thanks so much again, you all are great!

1 cup Flour
1/2 cup Cornmeal
1 tablespoon Sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Salt
2 tablespoons Vegetable shortening
1 Egg -- beaten slightly
3/4 cup Milk
Oil
8 Frankfurters

Corndogs

Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. With a pastry blender, cut vegetable shortening into flour mixture until there are fine crumbs. Add egg and milk and blend well.

Pour vegetable oil to a 2 inch depth in a deep fryer or large saucepan. Heat to 375 degrees.

Pat frankfurter dry with paper towels. Insert a kabob stick into center of each frankfurter. Dip each frankfurter into batter and then into hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper.

Thank you for posting the recipe. I wondered if this is kind of sweet? Can you add some sugar to that recipe to make the batter a little sweet or is the amount in the recipe enough?

There is a little bit of sugar in the recipe....am not sure how sweet you want them. Might try the first time with what the recipe calls for and serve with honey mustard. Then if you feel they were not sweet enough you can always experiment a little the next time.
