Come on down here to Charleston, SC. Beautiful weather! Friendly people! Tons of things to do! Near the beach! New businesses start here all of the time. Great restaurants. Good schools. Crime rate is low and you can actually leave your house unlocked and not have to worry about it. At least check it out on line.

That sounds great! I will put that one on my list. If we moved there, would I pick up one of those cool southern accent? My relatives moved to Texas and I love their new southern accents.

houston is really goog. Im not biased a bit!

No really, it is.....relatively low crime per capita. the economy...well, it's been up and down everywhere, and we have had our share of problems (compaq, enron, now the space program is up in air so jobs at NASA is in question) but we are so large and diversified in industry we tend to take hits like those a little better and rebound fairly well. The cost of living is pretty good, and there is no state income tax in TX. schools in the area (but not inner city HISD) are very good.

the people are friendly and we have tex-mex.

plus, it does not snow here.

here's the profile from the cnn best places index:

Houston looks nice, but your property taxes are more than twice ours. Wow!

inside the city limits. it's still high in surrounding counties.....butnot as high in city limits. that's the one bad thing, but the lower cost of the average house helps offset it too.

when you compare cities, you'll see lots of trade-offs like that. Lower land value, but higher tax. No state income tax, but a sales tax a little higher than the rest of the nation. you'll see these kinds of differences when comparing cities. something to keep in mind while you're mulling info around. like one place might have super low housing and property tax, only be in a state with a high state income tax. so much info to take in!

hope everything works out to be what's best for you and your family. relocating is a pretty major life event!

Thanks! We are hoping not to have to relocate, but it doesn't look very promising.

I love the Woodlands, Texas I would love to move back there I was raised in Texas I'm a southerner at heart! We are thinking about relocating ourselves I saw a few house I liked located around Lake Conroe (Walden Road Estates) also I seen a few houses located around the Woodlands that I would not mind taking a peek at.
The Woodlands has no crime when I checked and the schools are great, my husband works at Delphi Harrison they make radiators for GM cars so we have to go where there is a plant and have a opening..
I would also be interested in Asheville, NC they had an opening in Bowling Green I don't know where the is I think Kentucky I don't think I would want to go there..

But it is so hard to breath quality oxygen out of all the smog! Use to live in San Bernardino County.
