GOOD FOR YOU. My best friend taught junior high for over 25 years. She had to go out on disability last year...(not because she taught junior high...LOL).

She always said that the best way to deal with them was sarcastic wit because they don't usually have the experience to reply.

One of her fav ways to get boys from fighting was to yell, "You boys quit molesting each other!" She said it was hysterical how quickly they backed off from one another.

My son's girlfriend teaches 8th grade science. That's a tough age anyway because of puberty & hormones. To be a sub only exaggerates that problem. LMAO! Did you get my email last night about 'On the count of 3, everyone drop their notebook?' :D :D :D

I'm so glad it went well. Wouldn't it be great if you could permanently 'sub' 3 days a week or so?

Good for you FBH. My SS tried that bathroom bit with his teacher and she supposedly told him if he really needed to go to go on the floor. Well all hell broke loose with his mother. Tried to get the teacher fired. I think the teacher had to apologise for what she did. That was always happening. Glad you stood your ground.

HAHA Kelsey--my hubby would tell his boys to stop hugging each other when they started to fight. They stopped everytime.

You have a lot of experience with 'special' people, hanging around bbs here...
:D

Seriously, they're wonderful, warm, loving, eager children.

Hey Fish!! I subbed for elementary for 2 years. The only reason I quit was because my second job ended up being a promotion to a full time manager. I loved subbing!! I too did mostly the special education classes. I loved them!! (That was my major before I stopped going to college!!) I got soooo attached to them since I was their regular sub. You have a gift that you have recognized. Not everyone is cut out for special needs children. Sadly, some won't even givce it a try . . . . not knowing what they are missing out on. The rewards are so much greater in that field.

Sounds like you will have a good go at this substituing job. The more the teachers hear about you, the more they will request you. Before you know it, you will have a job every school day!! Keep up the good work!

8th grade is very hard to teach. you handled it wonderfully, and I hope you get as much from the experience that the kids got from you:)
