question about a betty Davis movie

Hush hush sweet Charlotte ok I know it been around for a long time but me and hubby finally watched it last night, my question is at the very end where that guy gives her that letter and she reads it before they drive her away in the car what in the world was that letter about? left me and hubby just hanging does anyone know? tia :)

I went to amazon.com and found this in one of the reviews. I have no idea if this pertains to your question since I have never seen the movie. Here is the quote I found:

"The closing scene, with Charlotte being driven away by a sheriff's deputy but finding out, only then, that she didn't kill her lover 37 years earlier is a satisfying end."
