My daughter Kali who is 3 years old, has been having a terrible time going to the potty pooping. She isn't constipated but (without being too graphic) her poop is so hard it hurts her. She actually cries sometimes when she goes. It has just started in I'd say the last 4 days or so. I know I have 3 kids but I never had this problem with the older two, especially at 3. Any advice on what types of foods I should be giving her to help this problem. She does eat enough fruit and drinks about 8 oz. of juice per day.

try some raisins or if you can get her to eat anything with bran (bran muffin, raisin bran) or a little fiber drink (IF you can get her to drink it) if its that bad, maybe some MOM (again IF you can get it in her)

My son used to have that problem sometimes, I would just give him a few prunes, or a little prune juice and it helped.:)

Add to her diet more fiber if you can. Apples w/skins . . . Fun things like popcorn works too.
I hear ya about hard poops. My dd has the same prob sometimes. But it's my fault for not giving her more fruit like I should.

Raisins always work if mine are constipated. And they LOVE raisins!! I have to be careful not to let them have too many. I usually give them as a snack every 2-3 days to make sure they stay regular.

If she is picky like mine was syrup worked wonders!! The usual syrup on pancakes etc worked. Mine won't eat too much of a variety of fruit so I have to sneak it into a smoothie. Shhh - he never knows what he's drinking!! Don't tell him!! I use the Louisiana smoothie mix and add little extras here and there! ;) If it's an immediate problem do a little bit of Karo syrup. Good luck!!

Thanks a lot you guys. I will try some of these things. She does eat plenty of fruit and I don't want to give her much more juice because she has had a few cavities. I will get some prune juice and sneak it into her other. She won't eat raisins but loves grapes. I have been giving her white grape juice. I hope something eventually works, I hate to see her crying when she goes, breaks my heart.

My dd was the same way and I tried everything then I bought some Senokot its a children's laxative. It worked great i slipped it into some milk beacuse looks and smells like chocolate. I would try everyone elses suggestions and use this as a last resort with my dd she was scared it would hurt to go poop so she would have to go but she held it in to the point she was contistapated.

Thanks Raven, had to use this for Amanda when she was just a few months old it had slipped my mind.
jennls- I am going to try these suggestions. I don't want to have to give her any medicines unless absolutely necessary as you did with your dd. When my oldest was a baby the doc had me to get some suppositories but after reading the label I wouldn't give them to her, I was afraid she would be dependent on them.

the laxative is 100% all natural and alcohol free i bought it at my local pharmacy. By feeding her more fruit was just making it worse becasue she was scared it was going to hurt with this it loosened the stool and after that she was not scared to move her bowels.

perhaps you could sneak a fiber additive (something like metamucil or citrucel, they make an orange flavor) in a smoothie or something (just make sure she gets a lot of other liquids to make it work right)

Joey has the same problem. APPLESAUCE AND OATMEAL should help. Also, Applejuice.
