My oldest daugther Kylie will be 12 in March. I am going to burn a cd for her with songs that would be from a mother to a daughter. For instance, "I Hope You Dance" by LeeAnn Womack. It doesn't matter what genre. She likes all kinds of music. I am hoping to get at least 15 songs together. Soooo if I could recruit my friends here at the BBS to help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

ps. If you woudn't mind keeping this bumbed even if you don't have any suggestions.

You and Me Against The World
Music & Lyrics: P. Williams/K. Ascher
Sung by Helen Reddy

(Tell me again, Mommy)
You and me against the world.
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world.
When all the others turn their back and walk away
You can count on me to stay.

Remember when the circus came to town
and you were frightened by the clown?
Wasn't it nice to be around
Someone that you knew?
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for
You and me against the world.
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world.
And for all the times we've cried
I always felt that God was on our side.

And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through.

Think about the days of me and you
You and me against the world.

And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on.
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through.

Think about the days of me and you
You and me against the world.

I love you, Mommy.

I love you too, Babe.

Hey, if you do "You've Got a Friend," you should use the Carole King version of it. She did write it after all.

26 Cents - The Wilkinsons

She sat all alone on a bus out of Beaumont

With courage of just 18 years

A penny and quarter were taped to a letter

And Mama's good-bye in her ears

She watched as her high school faded behind her

And the house with the white picket fence

Then she read the note that her Mama had wrote

Wrapped up with twenty-six cents

Chorus: When you get lonely call me anytime at all
(Ooo.....)

I'll be there with you always anywhere at all
(Ooo......)

There's nothing I got that I wouldn't give

And money is never enough

Here's a penny for your thoughts a quarter for the call

And all-a your Mama's love

A penny and quarter buys a whole lot of nothin

Taped to an old wrinkled note

And when she didn't have much, she had all Mama's love

Inside that old envelope

Chorus

Bridge: Oh, it's been years since Mama's been gone

But when she holds a coin she feels her love----just as strong

Chorus

Tag: Here's a penny for your thoughts a quarter for the call

And all-a your Mama's love

A song that brings tears to my eyes is Willie Nelson singing Blue Eyes. First heard it when our first grandaughter was born and we didn't even know the color of her eyes yet. It's about looking into your eyes and loving you deeply and forever.

I like Alison Kraus' version of Baby Mine from Dumbo (sounds corny, but it's so sweet)

Alison Kraus also has a duet with Yo-yo Ma (well, he's playing, she's singing), called Appalachian Journey (Slumber My Darling) - it's a lullaby, so is sung to a baby, but it's beautiful - might be good for a last song.

I thought of a couple of "happy" songs that I burned for my daughter..
"I Can See Clearly Now"
"It's a Beautiful Morning"
She likes both of these because I would crank them and we would sing them together;)

I found the lyrics to Slumber my Darling (lyrics actually by Stephen Foster, but I like the lastest Alison Krauss, Yo-yo Ma, Mark O'Connor, et.al version best):

Slumber my darling, thy mother is near,
Guarding thy dreams from all terror and fear.
Sunlight has past and the twilight has gone,
Slumber my darling, the night’s coming on.
Sweet visions attend thy sleep,
Fondest, dearest to me,
While others their revels keep,
I will watch over thee.
Refrain:
Slumber, my darling, the birds are at rest,
The wandering dews by the flowers are caressed,
Slumber, my darling, I’ll wrap thee up warm,
And pray that the angels will shield thee from harm.

2.
Slumber my darling, till morn’s blushing ray
Brings to the world the glad tidings of day:
Fill the dark void with thy dreamy delight--
Slumber, thy mother will guard thee to-night.
Thy pillow shall sacred be
From all outward alarms;
Thou, thou are the world to me
In thine innocent charms.
Refrain:
