Hello! I am going to use a teenager to babysit for the first time on saturday and was wonder what the going rate was per chid per hour. My son is 7 and easily entertained and my daughter is 2 1/2 and also good natured. She is not quite potty-trained yet so ther would be an occasionall diaper to change. Just wondering what the going rate was where you are. Thanks for all your input!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Thanks! WOW! I should start babysitting!!! Things have changed since I was a teen. At that rate it will cost us as much for the babysitter as the night out! Anyone elses input would be great!!! :D :D

when my mil babysitts (which isnt very often) she wants (see the word wants?) $3.00 per child per hour. so for us it would be $9.00 an hour. Sorry, a bit to much for me.

I would think that $2.00 to 2.50 would be good, You could always ask the teen what they think is fair, then go from there.

Your MIL charges you to watch her grandkids????

thats terrible... I could understand if she was watching them everyday while you worked.. as a job.. maybe charging a little.. but that much?

This past football season I hired a neighbor girl to go to the games with us.. cause its just too hard to watch my 2 yr old.. and see my 14 yr old play football..lol.. we payed her $2 hr... plus I would buy her a drink and snack..

If it's for a night out...I'd order her/him and the kids a pizza and pay 'em $2.50/hr. If you know it's going to be a set amount of time, you could offer a set amount of money rather than a per hour rate. Gosh, when I was teen, I got $1/hr per kid. I liked BIG families lol!

$7.00 AN HOUR!!!! I AM GLAD I DON'T LIVE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!! (NO OFFENSE) Thanks so much for everyones input! I usually have my MIL watch the kids if we have a special occasion and she doesn't charge--its fun time for her!!! but she has plans and my parents go to Fla. for the winter and I don't have many people I would trust my children with. This girl goes to our church and aI have known her and her parents for years. I figured we would get them a couple pizzas and maybe rent a kids movie. We will probably be gone about 4 hours--dinner and a movie-- part of my christmas wish list!!!!! A real night out with another couple we are friends with and a nice dinner and good movie. I figure $3.00 an hour--with the movie and pizza should catch it-- or just $20.00 even if we run a little longer. It is interesting to see what people pay. Thanks a million everyone! :) :) :) :)

WOW, Rates really are high, last week I paid a babysitter for the first time in 4 years, I usually get my mom or exchange with a friend. Anyway, she drove to my house, I paid her $25 for 5 hours, bought her dinner from McDonalds and I had DVD's in the house that she could watch. I have 2 kids ages 3 and 6.

I used to get $1.00 per hour, total! The people that I babysat for had 5 kids, (HORRIBLE KIDS) No TV, a wood stove and NO furnace, and mice that would come up to my chair when I was reading a book. My mom would not let me accept pay on Sunday, so they always asked for me to babysit on Sunday evening's after church. She also always left tons of dishes that my mom said that I HAD to watch. Babysitter's now a days have it SO EASY!!!

I have 5 kids of widely varying ages. I pay my babysitter who is AWESOME (wouldn't she have to be??) $20 for an evening. But if we were gone longer.. like over the supper hour, and late into the evening, I'd add $5 or so. It's worth it!

I pay $2.50 an hour per kid. I have two. Also I always round up an hour. So if she was here for 2 hours and fifteen minutes I round up to three hours. I have a great siter that is great with the kids.
