I really could use some help from my BBS family. Here's the scoop:
My oldest daughter was invited to participate in a Student Ambassador program. In June, she'll be able to take a 22-day trip to England, France, Italy and Greece. They'll get to meet foreign dignitaries, and see fabulous sites like the Louvre Museum, Tower of London, and the ruins of Pompeii.
My dad went with us to see the program presentation, and said he's willing to pay for half. But we still need to raise about $2500 for the remainder of the tuition, round trip air fare to the East Coast, and for her to have a little spending money.
I've been doing some research online, but all I've found so far is companies doing the mass school/nonprofit fundraisers like cookie dough, candy, etc.
Kelli was just offered a PT job as a soccer referee for YMCA, and we're going to be getting her CPR card renewed soon so she be able to market herself better as a babysitter. So she'll be making a little bit of money. But any ideas for scraping together more will be very welcome.
We've been given a couple of ideas, like recruiting sponsors, but we don't want to put all our hopes into one basket.
I know we have lots of creative thinkers on here...Can any of you help with this??

Sponsorship is always a good idea as is a bake sale or garage sale of some kind.
When my parents sent me to Poland for 6 weeks they sold a couple of really big things that they no longer used and it brought in money.
EBAY!!! Sell things there.
She could also make something like cute little key chains or something to that affect and sell them door to door explaining what she's doing, her wonderful opportunity and the fact that she's made things to buy.
Those are the only suggestions I have at the moment. I hope she gets to go. When I was able to go to Poland and Germany and Belgium it really affected my life.
Rent a hall and have a dinner of some sort..like sloppy joes, chips and stuff, and charge like 6.00 for adults and 4 for kids. They do that all the time around here and come out really well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd love to do the Krispy Kreme thing, but they only do fundraisers for groups. :(
I just had a yard sale not too long ago, before I knew this was going on. So I don't have a lot of stuff to get rid of anymore.
I'm going to try and get some soap made and sold before Christmas. I could sell it after the holidays, but people will be looking for those last-minute stocking stuffers!

instead of the normal garage sale or yard sale......get things together for a Christmas Bazaar sale a week or two prior to Christmas.
Make up pans of fudge, make cookies and loaf cakes (like pumpkin bread, cranberry nut bread, etc). You could get some canning jars and make up the cookie mix with directions for the how to finish making them. You could also make some small ornaments (ie like the tampon angels) to sell.
If you have a green thumb and lots of plants around, make cuttings and pot them up. People are always looking for small plants to give to neighbors, etc. at Christmas time.
A few years ago, I made scented hot plate pads from red, white, and green yarn; crocheted them in the traditional granny square pattern. Bought some muslin and cut it into squares and sewed pockets. Placed a few bags of Constant Comment Tea inside and then whipped the end together and then put the granny squares around them....they sold quite well.
You can also do the same thing at Valentine's Day and make up some chocolate candies to sell.

Tell people what it's for and have a jar out if they want to contribute. Be sure to "feed the kitty"--put some money in so it will get people wanting to contribute as well. Sneaky but good marketing.:p

i know that our walmart often "sponsers" kids for educational related things all the time!!it's part of a partner's in education program. maybe they have something like that in your town??also, contact your local news stations and newspaper offices. they would run a human interest story about your child, the trip and how people can make donations to help her achieve her goal!! people are ALWAYS more giving this time of year!! :D (it's also considered a tax write-off!!LOL)
hope she gets to go!!
