I just found out my pap was abnormal. I have to go in and have a coloscopy and biopsy of the cervix. Has anyone had this? Nurse said to take some Tylenol beforehand, as it is "uncomfortable". Great! She said something about vinegar and being in the stirrups for 20 to 30 mins. I wasn't listening too good, as I was still thinking, "What the heck is abnormal??". Any insight to what to expect would be helpful. Thanks...

I have had TONS of abnormal paps. They did a cryo surgery back in 96 but my last pap came back positive again for abnormal cells so they said they wont do another cryo...im hoping for a hysterectomy(sp?) They did my biopsy first and then they went back and did the cryo. My biopsy showed that i had precancerous cells so they did the cryo (froze my cervix) The biopsy was easy, just a slight pinching, but the cryo kicked my butt! The dr told me it would feel like cramps.....cramps my right eye..it felt more like contractions! I was literally "breathing" through the whole procedure!*huff huff puff....hiss*lol But please don't think i am trying to scare you, b/c you might not even have a cryo done!! I just wish someone had warned me ahead of time on what to expect tho b/c i went in clueless lol. Reguardless of what they do tho i am POSITIVE you will be fine! Just bare your butt....grin.....and bear it;) :p :D {{hugs}}

Abnormal could mean a lot of things. I have had paps come back abnormal and had the biopsy and the coloscopy done. One time out of 3 it was cancer. The other two times it was just atypical cells.
It is uncomfortable, but not really painful. There is some cramping and the biopsy pinches.
Hope all turns out well!

I hope everything turns out okay for you. I'm finally going to go this month and see if they can figure out what's wrong with me. Please keep us updated--maybe some of the info will help me too.
And hey, that 20-30 minutes in the stirrups could save your life (if, God forbid, anything would be wrong)
Good luck!

when I was pregnant with my first son, towards the end of my pregnancy they had told me that I had some abnormal cells and they thought it was cervical cancer.(mind you they didnt do the test at that point) and it scared the hell out of me(i was 17)
At my 6 week check-up they did the colposcopy, and it was rather uncomfortable. You'll feel a pinch, where they are taking samples and they use the vinegar solution as a way to tell the bad from the good if i remember correctly. Be sure you bring a pad with you, as you'll have some slight bleeding afterwards. But other than that, its just a grin and bear it kind of thing. It helped me there cause directly above me on the ceiling was a poster of Garfield and he was saying" its hard to be serious when your nakid" ........... isnt that the truth??? Hope everything turn out for the better for you.

yes like the others it could mean anything also to if you go to a differnt doctor than your last one they dont know what your last pap read and they go by that usually they compare them from year to year and if something is differnt then they say it is abnormal if you go to a different doctor then they dont know or if they send it to a different lab as your other doctor did they keep your records on file at the lab and compare them from the last. Only way i know this my daughter had one come back good but could not go to the same doctor who used a different lab they had it come back abnormal and nothing was wrong so we asked lots of questions and this is what the answer was we got back so we will keep you in our prayers and hope all goes well for you.
