Romainia is not a luxury Country, it is very poor, unsanitary in most of the villages and towns. Other major cities are crowded, and heck up to speed with most of the world.
My husbands grandmother who lives there in a large town has no electricity in home. The town was never wired up. An average paycheck is 150.00 dollars monthly converted to our dollars.
Clothing and food is very expensive for the people, compares closely to American rates. The Coke is no comparison to ours :( ICE? What is that they ask. Sure lots of excellent places to visit. The capital is upto date, the gypies still travel by horse and carriage.
The only great thing I can say going on it when American's and Church visit bringing medicine, clothing, and goods for them to have. The local Romainian Church here does lots of feight shipping to them. Also in Phoenix where you are they have many Romainian Christian Churches that do the same and yearly plan trips.
My parents visited earlier this year like every year. Some more culture has arrived. My cousin went back to marry a sweetheart from his teens. I currently have one other cousin who lives in Cluj-Napoca where I am from.
Enjoy your trip don't forget the imodium and toliet paper.

One of our employees is from there, and he & his wife haven't been home in over 4 years, They are going back to visit family this coming spring & invited us to go along. They talk about how beautiful it is there, but that it is a poor community. They have electricty tho. They each send their parents money every month, and say that to them it is a small amount, but to their parents, it seems like a lot. Their family calls them rich Americans now, LOL, even tho they both work for a living just like anyone.
odyssey, I'll email you when I get home from work tonight! :p
