I am always amazed at how many people who didn't know I was gay, demand a ribbon to wear so they can show their support in celebrating diversity.

Some people misunderstand what today is about it's not about recruitment, it's about understanding, by my coming out to other people I give them the chance to know me, and see just how "normal" I am. They don't have to change their beliefs, I am not after that, I just want to stop the hate.

Well for those people who are coming out today, hope you have lots of support around you.

I havent heard of this day before but for those celebrating (if that's what it is about) celebrate in style and have fun and love one another.

National Coming Out Day is important because it allows us to have support within the community. And it allows them to support others in the community. Many individuals fear that coming out will result in rejection from society and loss or friendships, gossip, harassment/abuse, being ostracized by a family or home unit, loss of financial support or a job, physical violence or even having their lover arrested.

That is why the National Coming Out Day was created; to offer encouragement to those scared or vulnerable.

The second part is to come out to other lesbians and gay men. This is supposed to be a post about solidarity, support and acceptance.

I'll edit out my posts Lasher. I don't hate anyone because of what they feel or believe in or who they love. And Renee, I know you were just looking for information, maybe Lasher can post a couple sites for you.

The best way to be a good person, and a good Christian (if that is your belief) is to love people because of what they do, how they live their lives and treat others.

Jaybird you didn't upset me, neither did Renee, but I knew if I responded, this would get turned into a debate, and it ALWAYS ends up ugly.

www.hrc.org is a great place to start for info, and if you want to discuss it, start a thread tommorrow, I have to work tommorrow night but I will be on the better part of the day.

Hey Lasher, You should come to Palm Springs at Easter. They have a White Parade that is VERY big here. It's just a big homosexual party for like 3 days!! I haven't been, just see it on TV all that weekend. (I'm happy being heterosexual!, I love my man!!) But, Hey, something to think about!!

I know many gay and lesbian people and i dont think i have ever met ANYONE that is gay that is unfriendly! Every gay person i know is so nice and would do anything for almost anyone!

Ok, I just came across this thread, HAPPY BELATED COMING OUT DAY TO ALL!!!!! I know it takes a lot of strength and courage to do this, I've been the practice person for a few of my friends, I just want to say I admire your strength and courage. Life's too short to avoid love, no matter who with.
