The body of the 9 year old (she had been shot in the head) found in NC were determined through DNA evidence to be Jennifer Short. (Her parents were murdered in their home in Virginia and she disappeared.) They just made the announcement in a news conference. :(

Jennifer Short is dead. Authorities say DNA tests on remains found last week in North Carolina are a match for the Henry County girl who was missing for six weeks. Authorities conducted an extensive search for Jennifer after they found the bodies of her parents in their Oak Level home August 15. Michael and Mary Short had each been shot once in the head. North Carolina medical examiners said this week there was a bullet hole in the skull they've now identified as Jennifer's. Authorities in Rockingham County, North Carolina continued the search this week for more of the 9-year-old girl's remains. A dog brought home a piece of the skull and several bones last week, but most of the remains have not been found.
Family, friends and lawmen investigating the case had remained hopeful that Jennifer would be found alive. Posters with Jennifer's picture were displayed around the county and circulated nationwide, and a reward fund for the little girl's safe return grew to about $68,000
