I am sure that any of you who have ever cooked greens know what a pain in the blooming arse cleaning them is. Well today I bought about 4 pounds at the farm market (ya know the ones fresh from the dirt that are really dirty). Well I don't know why I got this idea but I am a freaking genius. I put them in the washing machine on a delicate cycle with an extra rinse, cold water, large load. Ran them through there twice like that and OMG these are the cleanest greens I have ever seen in my life.

WOW! that is a great idea!
Should work with polk salad to I bet.
Did you put them in a pillow case or anything like that to be sure they didn't stop up your washer?

Sorry to 'one up you', but my daughter puts them in a mesh onion bag and puts them in the top load of the dishwasher. I don't have a dishwasher. I do it like Mama did it, wash, rinse, at least 3 times. UGH!

yes I really put them in the washing machine, the first time I washed them I threw a sample of that fit fruit wash I had in with them and the second time just plain water, didn't think to put them in a bag or anything just dumped them in the washer, but one of those mesh bags would probably work better because I did have to clean out the washer when I was done
hey nanajoanie, where in Greensboro are you?? I live in Greensboro too :D
