We did the secret santa here last year. It is something that I have done successfully, for the most part, a few times for various holidays. I will take names and info until the end of October. I will match people and send you your recipients by the 5th of Novemeber. The best way to make sure everyone gets their gifts on time is to have a date that everyone should mail them out by. I would say that everyone should mail out their things by the 5th of December to make it to their recipients on time. Please make sure that if you sign up fot this that you will definately follow through. It is best that you use delivery confirmation to make sure that your package gets to where it belongs. If for some reason you sign up and then decide you can not do it let me know asap so I can match your person up to someone else. It is very disappointing to sign up for this and do your part and then not receive your item from your secret santa. Once a package is received let me know and I will mark it as such. After Christmas I will post who everyone's secret santa is. This means that when you send your package you put secret santa on it and not your name. I will get a questionaire written up so that your santa knows some things about you and will have an easier time picking something out for you. I haven't done this online before. Is there an agreement about the price range people should spend? Or maybe because some people have more money than others there can be more than one price range to sign up for?

For example, there could be a $5.00-$8.00 range. If you sign up for that range you will be matched up with someone else from that same group. Then maybe there could be a $9.00-$15.00 range, etc........

Then there would be no diapointment when a person spends a certain amount of money for a nice gift for their Secret Santa and they get something inexpensive. Of course it is the thought that counts....

These are just questions, don't mean to step on anyones toes. As I said I've never done this before so I don't know exactly how this works.

Usually a limit is set. We can set a limit of $15 or $20. This way no one gets something too expensive and no one feels bad. I will go with the majority on this one so tell me if you guys want the $15 or $20 limit. Of course this is up to this amount, you don't have to spend this amount. Also this usually does not include shipping. This is more for the thought of it but people do really look forward to geting something especially when they have done their end. Sometimes someone spends a lot of time making something and that can be priceless! Also I will not assign you to each other because it is too easy that way. I will give you a person and that person will have someone else. They will not be your santa as you are theirs. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions.

No, I don't think it is too early. It will give people time to shop or pick up little things if they want. Then I will match everyone up early Novemebr and they will get their person's profile to personalize it. Mailing off by the 5th of December with delivery confirmation will ensure that everyone gets their packages on time. Anyone interested just email me and lmk because I am going to go off the emails rather than this thread to make it easier and to make sure I get everyone. I am working on a questionaire and will get that out to everyone as soon as I am done with it. Thanks!

I belong to another site that does something very similar to this and they require that delivery conf. is used and they have specific dates when you need to ship by. Also they have people post there preferences for instances if you have kids, if you decorate your house, theme, size clothes you wear, jewlery style, etc. You have the same set up so I am sure it will be great fun for all!!!

Okay, we are up to 45 people!! Starduster I need you to email me if you haven't so that I can send you the questionnaire. I think I have heard from everyone else now. We are going to set a $15-$20 limit. I will keep taking names until the 31st of October. I will get everyone their person by the 5th of November and probably sooner. This will give you all a month for shopping. Everyone will need to ship their package to their person by December 5th with delivery confirmation. No later than this. I ask that once you send your package email me and let me know so I can keep track of who is doing what. Also once you receive a package let me know so I can mark that down. I am going to try to match up people with similiar family situations. This way a single person with no children will not be buying for someone with 3 children whom is married. This is for the specific person but I understand that most people want to include children so it is something you can do but is not necessary. If you are a single person that wants to have a family let me know. Otherwise I will try to pair up singles with singles and families with families. Thanks!

Hiltonqueen, I have your completed questionnaire. Flower it does not matter to me if you spend more or not. The limit is so that no one gets chumped by some dollar gift. As long as you are aware that you might not receive a gift that equals the amount you spent it is not a big deal.

OK DUMB QUESTION TIME....I never did this before...Ok say I am from a family of 3 and are paired with a family of 3. Are we supposed to buy every member of the family a gift for $20 or is it one $20 gift for the family?

Are we secret santas for our "families", or is it for the individual? My husband & kids aren't participating even though they are my "family"... so now I'm a little confused. I want to buy a gift for the person thats chosen for me, not for their family. And I want the same for myself. I hope no-one thinks that I'm being selffish.
For example, for a woman, I'd rather buy her a nice candle, or some perfume... opposed to a blender... or a toaster that benefits her family.
Ya know, when my husband & I got married, one of my husbands best friends bought "us" 12 golfballs for a wedding present. The worst part was opening it in front of everyone... what a "goofball".

I guess I want to know a little more about the type of gifts we should buy someone with a family :)

Midniteblue and Hiltonqueen- You are only buying a gift for the person that you are secret santa to. If you are paired with someone with kids you can buy little things like a chocolate santa or some such little thing if you want to. It is not required. I just know that some people like to include the children but it is not necessary. You are only ultimately responsible for the one person you are santa to.
