I remember some stuff from my two semesters of chemistry, what are you having trouble with?

I cannot get the following..here is an example...
Which is a possible method to produce liquid carbon dioxide from gas? The critical temp and pressure are 31 degrees Celsius and 73 atm, and the triple point is -57 degrees Celcius, 5.1 atm.
Also, Which of the following would the boiling point of water be the highest?
in apressure cooker whre the pressure is 1400 torr
at the peak of mt. everest
in new york city whre the pressure is about 760 torr
in new mexico where the pressure is about 710 torr
in the "mile high" city of denver....
this type of thing....how do you figure out what pressure the boiling point would be highest? they do not talk about altitudes in my book....

ACK! My dot's had years of chem, but she left tonight for a weekend float trip, won't be home until Sunday evening.

ok dug out the old chemistry book and it says the higher the altitude, the lower the pressure and the lower the pressure the lower the boiling point, therefore the place with the highest pressure would have the highest boiling point, in this case it would be the pressure cooker
still looking up the other one

ok I found a phase diagram for Carbon Dioxide in my book and Carbon Dioxide will liquify from gas when it reaches the critical point which consists of a critical temperature and critical point, for carbon dioxide these are 31 degrees celcius and 73 atm (atomic mass units), so if you are able to heat the carbon dioxide gas until it reaches this critical point it will liquify, the triple point of -57 degrees celcius and 5.1 atm is the point at which it would turn back into a gas from a liquid, at any point in between the triple point and the critical point they will exsist in equilibrium with each other

why yes I so thank you for noticing hehehehehe, I had a really good teacher for chemistry and actually learned a lot in there, just need to look in the book to refresh my memory and then I try to put it into words normal people can understand

heeheee...thanks for thinking I am a "normal" person..hehehe..that is the best compliment I have had for weeks...heheee...I love science...actually my major is Biology...but this inorganic/mechanical Chemistry is kicking my behind...This is my 3rd...yes, I said 3rd semester of chemistry..It does not get better with time no matter what anyone says....heehe..

I have a few more for you if you do not mind...those made so much sense to me that i was able to get the answers...with your coaching of course..i will post a few more if you do not mind...hee..it is friday after all and if you say...leave me alone..i will understand..but you have been able to explain to me in layman's terms on why this is what....hehehe...

oh, please note..i am not necessarily looking for the actual answers...just a poke in the right direction in how to actually figure this stuff out without the whole science mumbojumbo...just did not want you to think i was cheating...because after all...i still have to take the exams with out my erniemarie...hehe
