My 8 yr old has decided that Emergency Vets on Animal Planet is better than cartoons. I dont WANT to see them operate on animals.
He has now decided he NEEDS a potbellied pig, he will walk it and feed it carrots and apples so it wont get fat like the one getting treated on the show today.

IMHO everyone NEEDS a potbellied piggy...but I LOVE piggies, and would have one if my city did not consider them livestock...the nerve of some people.

cpbaby, this could behim showing an interest in medicine, either veterinary or human. my midwife and most of my nurse friends were the same way from an early age.

YES! As a matter of fact it is. His daddy is fond of saying he would adopt a Jack-@ss if it followed him home. I wish I could get a cheap Pig but I dont know where to look. He has this "thing" for tires and junked out tractors so I guess he will be a combination vet/tire salesman/tractor junkyard operator.
As for the Pig Stand, at one time I had over 600 pigs displayed in my house. My brother wanted the tv station where he works to do a "clip" of my collection. He said it was WAY more interesting than the lady with pine cones they did one week.

Well, that could be the reason why he likes the show. It sounds like he's no stranger to the E.R. Maybe he feels like he can relate to the animals. I know it's gross, but an interest in science and any part of the medical field could be a good thing.

I love pigs. DH won't let me get one though. He is such a meanie!:(
Widget- If you ever get up to the Seattle area go check out the pig at Pike Place Market. Last year we had a pigs on parade to raise money for charity. They took huge ceramic pigs and decorated them. Then, they put them in the Torchlight parade and then auctioned them off. They were really cool. I will try to find the link for them!
My mom used to own a restaurant in a stockyards. The decor was all pigs, cows, chickens, you know farm animals. I still have some of the calico cows.
