I often complain about my "addiction" to Dr. Pepper, but without my caffeine I just cannot function! But I heard from someone that you could be allergic to caffeine, and if so, instead of having a "normal" allergic reaction, the allergy causes you to have the same symptons as mental disorders!!!! You guys have GOT to read what I found on the internet while researching this subject! People have been misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, panic disorder, and even MS, when they were actually allergic to caffeine.

I had no idea that you could be allergic to caffeine, but after reading this, I think we need to DEMAND more research in this area!!!!!!

Caffeine toxicity may be mistaken for bipolar disorder (1,12). Symptoms include: chattiness, repetitive thought and action (resembling obsessive compulsive disorder, OCD), restlessness, psychomotor agitation, alternating moods, anger, impulsiveness, aggression, omnipotence, delirium, buying sprees, lack of sexual inhibition, and loss of values.

Conditions needing to be excluded before fibromyalgia is diagnosed

Some think of FM as a diagnosis which should only be made when other, treatable, conditions which could cause the fatigue and other symptoms have been considered and either treated or ruled out, bearing in mind that some of these conditions could possibly co-exist with FM.

a) Conditions which commonly occur with, or mimic the symptoms of, fibromyalgia include: Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic lupus erythematosis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Hypothyroidism, Thoracic outlet syndrome, Polymyalgia rheumatica, Lyme disease, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Prolapsed mitral valve, HIV infection, Myofascial pain syndrome, and Sjogren’s syndrome.

b) Other conditions are: Depression, Stress, Hormonal problems, Gluten intolerance, Poor nutrition, Irritable bowel syndrome, Pre-menstrual syndrome, Temporomandibular Joint disorder, Hypoglycaemia, Caffeine allergy, Thyroid disease, Side effects of currently used prescription drugs, and Physical abnormalities such as Chiari malformation.

Okay I have to add one more!!!!

As of today, my children will no longer be drinking caffeinated(sp?) drinks! And I guess I'll have to wean myself off of them. I am 26 years old and I have the "rosacea" problem that is listed here. I also have mild OCD symptoms. I believe that caffeine could have something to do with it.

My hubby has discontinued all caffeine, and in only one weeks time, he is feeling a little better already. I have been trying to slowly wean myself off of it, and it has not been easy, but I am determined to eradicate caffeine from our lives!!!!!

Wow... this is explains *alot* to me... I had to drop soda for other reasons about 4 months ago... in that time my head has been *alot* clearer but I would have never known that... but to boot... in that time, not eating any differently or getting my butt away from the computer any more often, I have lost FORTY POUNDS... I had absolutely no idea that soda could cause so much weight problems either, until I got off of it and the weight started to litterally fall off w/ no effort at all.
