Now we got dear Rapunzel she’s chillin’ in the tower
waiting for the handsome prince,
she sopped up all her power
Finally one day, the handsome prince in town,
he called up to Rapunzel,
“Yo, girl, let it down!”
But our dear Rapunzel was no where to be seen
Yes our dear Rapunzel had learned something keen
“All this time alone kinda taught me how to cope,
so I shaved my head and made me a rope.”

She screams at the top of her lungs, “I’m whole!
I’m body, I’m heart, I’m mind, I’m soul”

"She tangles ropes around your consciousness… Her tones fell with a pulse that jolts inspiration and life into the dullness and sadness of a world where ‘isms reign…Alix’s words are the art of change, justice, fairness, and love."
-La Salle Collegian

i wanna propose we follow those
who chose a different
way to knock.
those who banged with persistence
like the audre lordes of my existence.
who chose a different way to walk--
took a chance, didn't prance, tiptoe,
twirl thru this world.
i refuse to slide past
even if it means coming in last.
i'm gonna stomp and rage and kick,
talk hard, think thick, see it don't
take a d#ck to have b@lls.

Alix is a red-hot, fire-bellied, feminism-spewin’ volcano. Plus she knows how to rhyme.

Weekly Chart Summary by Daniel Jenkins: July 8, 2002

Alix Olson scores the first #1 spoken word CD ever on the Outvoice charts as "Built Like That" moves up to the top in its 45th week. Olson, a member of the 1998 Nuyorican National Championship Slam Team and winner of the 1999 OutWrite National Slam, is touring year-round in 2002. She's been making appearances at colleges, and that's where the votes for Olson are coming from - including a particularly vocal bunch from the University of Alabama. "Built Like That" is an astounding debut showcasing Olson's penchant for poetry, posturing and propaganda.

I don't think I've heard anything off of it yet, so I keep voting for Alix.
