Hey all you peeps, be on the look-out for abondoned puppies and kitties. A woman told me her daughter found a kitty when she was going through the drive-through at the bank. Just a little ball of fur so you may not see them if you aren't looking. So sad what can happen to them if we don't take care of them. I've heard a lot recently of people finding these babies all alone and no other animals around. :( :(

There's a cat and a kitten I'm trying to catch in my neighbor's yard. They're mine when I get them!! She told me she didn't want them and that I could have them. I'm not sure if it's the mom or not, but I'll give them both a good home. :)

Thanks for the heads up janelle. We found our baby dog on the highway! He was only about 7 weeks old, according to the vet. I also know someone who backed over one of those cardboard soda pop containers, which she thought was empty, and it turned out to have had kittens in it!!! She saved two....but the rest were gone! Someone put them there on purpose....people can be so cruel!

I had that happen to me at K-Mart. I backed up my car and felt a crunch. I got out to see what I had hit and it was a box full of kittens. Five of them, and only two lived! They are in my living room right now trying to figure out how to climb the mini blinds! :) They aren't the brightest kittens in the world!;)

Try not to drive over anything. You never know what may be in it. Not only animals but glass or nails put there by vandals to ruin tires. This way we won't harm any animals if they are inside.

They had put the box under my car, so I couldn't see it. I don't know what in the heck they were thinking. Sickos!

(((miccit))) they were thinking really sick that's what. People that will torture animals will turn into killers in the future. It's a known fact.

I try not to run over anything, but I ran over a empty soda can (that I didn't see) a couple of yrs ago and I got a flat tire!!!!

miccit--Bless your heart for taking the kittens into your home.

janelle, thanks for the post. i also got my yorkie due to her being abuse. they said, they were going kill her for real if i didnt take her. z
i was not much of a doggie person, more a cat, birds and fish. Well, Baby has been a wonderful companion. Thru all my medical problems, she can even warn when i have a seizure.
She has been by my side for over 8 1/2 yrs.
Animals really make a different in your lives. It is a medical fact that they lower blood pressure. I will never understand why people r so cruel in live.
I am so happy we have people that care like janelle warning us, miccit tooking the two kittens into your home(bless your heart on how u found them). sharinbo, thank goodness for people like u and my daddy. My dad wife brought a stray in bad shape from the bank and my father found a pitiful pup on the hwy median.
Now, they have 3. All healthy and happy. All spaded r neutered!!!
I took in a drop off. Boy, does she ever drag things thru the yard. Now, after 2 months she finally lets me pet her. Only me. I call her 'Sally.' :)

All of our animals are strays also. Even the turtle!

My mother always used to say never run over anything cause there could be something inside. People can be so cruel. We found a liitle 4 week old kitten sitting in the middle of park once. There was no way this little thing could have made it there itself. We took it to the vet and he was bleeding from the nose because he was so dehydrated from being out in the sun his little membranes in his nose were bursting. He's fine and dandy now though, and sleeping somewhere in the house.

Gee, you all make me want to go out to the parks and start looking for strays. Maybe we could start a program like that. People could join and one day a week go looking for abandoned babies. Have people sign up who will take them and give them a good home. I can't think of anything better than to gets kids involved in this one.

How do we go about getting the word out to organizations like the scouts. They may have reasons they won't do it like the kids may be exposed to rabies but if the had adult supervision I would think it would be a great program to start.

I'm not sure how you would get that started, with an organization like the scouts, Janelle. But, there are organizations out there already. I belong to three organizations that pickup strays and take abused animals only. These animals are then housed by our members aka 'fostered.' We have adoption weekends at Petsmart every weekend. If we have someone who is waiting for that special, certain cat or dog---they will usually end up getting it. That's how I ended up with my spaz, Max.

It's very possible you get start a program to round up animals but you'd have to find folks willing to house the animals. I have two cats, guinea pig, and a dog--and if i get those two other cats I don't think I will have room for much more! And, I also foster a dog here and there. Good luck if you decide to take this on!

I think we do have a pet rescue in our area. I bet sharinbo will know about it. I just wonder how they get their animals. Do they go out and actively look or just take in pets people accidentally find.

People who do this service are great, thank you. Our Petsmart has the adoption program.

Yes, definitley as Sharinbo about it. It feel so good to give somthing back to the animals. The Stray Rescue of St. Louis (click on my link, I need to update my bookmark.) goes out and looks for these dogs/cats--or they get leads on neglected animals and abandoned animals. It's truely amazing how much we can make a difference.

Janelle--I was out taking Max for a stroll last night and this cat walked up to us--and was soooo friendly. I could tell it was an outside cat, she had a sore on her ear and was scrawny. She couldn't really "talk" that well either. She walked away from me back up to the house and I noticed a water bowl out for her.. So I thought she belonged to that house. Then I saw another cat --beautiful, fat, white one...so then I thought--'oh, this cat lives here.." So I need to go back tonight and ask if that cat belongs to anyone. It was soo sweet and friendly. I'd take her and clean her up and try to find her a great home.. My mom wants another cat. Jinx, only likes my dad.

It is strange if she walked up to you when you have a dog. If she lived at that house she would go running back to it for protection. She may be looking for attention since she is alone. That would be wonderful to help her. It's heartbreaking to see stray animals come up to you and want you to take them home.

We have two dogs and a cat (all adopted). Plus, we have one feral (wild) cat that adopted us.

When we brought our last dog into the house, my poor kitty rebelled and refused to come in the house for almost 6 months. She hated him so. So, I put her cat feeder on the front porch. This beautiful black and white long-haired wild kitty spent it's time between my neighbor's and our house.

Once we had the food out...he/she decided that we were his/her family.

My kitty now comes in and gets her canned food at night. When she is done...I take her dish out to "Tuxedo" or "Tuxie" (as we named him/her).

Tuxie greets us each day as we come home from work. Will meow at me to let me know when the feeder is empty or if I have forgotten to bring out the dish with the canned food.

He/She will roll around the ground and rub against the brick...but will let me get no closer than 2 feet. I know he/she wants to trust us...but just can't.

We are selling our home and will be trapping Tuxie so we can move him/her with us. Let's face it...after 3 years of this...this is our cat too!
