I'm actually asking this for my mom. She wants to be able to lock her computer so my little brothers can't use it when she's not home. SHe has a password on Windows, but that will not keep them out. Can she lock the whole computer somehow?
Also, how do you get to your history to see what sites have been visited? I showed her how to get to the cookies, but that did not tell her much. She thinks they have been going to porn sites. She is using a cable modem, so they can use IE OR AOL to get online. Help anyone?

Why won't the Windows password keep them out? Are they able to figure it out?

We used to use a program called Bootlocker. You could do a search for it. It keeps anyone from booting up the PC, without a password. The history in IE shows all the sites that have been visited, but it can be edited, if you know how. Temp. internet files would show where they've been also, but my son used to just delete those, LOL! Hope she finds something. :)

First question yes, you can go into the Bios and set a password, they won't even beable to boot the computer into windows without entering the password.

Yes you can retrive the history, but you can just as easily erase it. She can install Net nanny, or Cyber Patrol on the computer, and they won't be able to access the site, and not only that they won't be able to use they computer until your mother enters the password to shut off the alarm they set off by trying to go there, they can reboot 99 times it won't matter, the alarm will stay until the password is entered.

You can get shareware versions of the programs at www.zdnet.com/downloads

Rebuild the system, format the hardrive, there is no getting around a bios password, that's what it is for.
