NO CHARGES AGAINST AL UNSER JR.

Race car driver Al Unser Jr. will not face criminal charges stemming from accusations he punched his girlfriend and left her stranded along a highway in Indianapolis. Unser, 40, also said he is entering an alcohol-abuse treatment center and will not be racing for several weeks. Unser admitted to reporters he has a problem with alcohol and that drinking has led to most of the bad choices he has made in his life. Prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to bring charges against Unser in the July 9 incident, when he and girlfriend, Jena Sota, punched each other as she drove away from a strip club at 3:30 a.m. Sota, who did not seek to press charges, told police she pulled off the highway and got out of the vehicle, and that Unser drove away.

SHARON OSBOURNE TALKS ABOUT HER CANCER

Sharon Osbourne, the no-nonsense matriarch of MTV'S "The Osbournes" reality series, is talking about her recovery from colon cancer surgery in a way that fits her image. "Why'd they have to find it in my bum?" Osbourne, wife of heavy-metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, told People magazine in an interview. She said her "prognosis is very, very
good," even though doctors found the cancer had spread beyond her colon. Three months of chemotherapy begin July 29. Doctors say husband Ozzy may have saved Sharon's life by persuading her to have her first physical in three years after he had a benign polyp removed from his colon two weeks earlier.

'SLEEPER' HOUSE ON SALE FOR $10 MILLION

The futuristic house used in Woody Allen's 1973 film "Sleeper" is for sale. It's not for buyers in the market for a starter home: the owner wants $10 million for the space-age digs on a high ridge in the Rocky Mountains west of Denver. Software tycoon John Huggins bought the
7,500-square foot home on 15 acres for a reported $1.3 million in 1999 and spent millions repairing years of neglect and adding loads of living space.

This fall, home and garden diva Martha Stewart is planning a weekly author segment on her syndicated TV show "Martha Stewart Living." JUDGE CLEARS DOWNEY OF DRUG CHARGES

A California judge has ruled actor Robert Downey Jr. has successfully completed one year of rehab stemming from his arrest on drug charges in November 2000. Prosecutors tried to convince Riverside County Superior Court Judge Randall White to extend Downey's probation for six more months for additional treatment. White said he was satisfied with Downey's progress and declared his probation period complete. Downey, 37, was sentenced last July to three years probation after pleading no contest to felony cocaine possession and a misdemeanor count of being under the influence. Downey had been out of prison just three months when he was arrested in Palm Springs in 2000, and he was charged in April 2001 in another drug case that cost him his role in Fox TV's "Ally McBeal."

JACK OSBOURNE BANGED UP IN JUMP FROM PIER

While Ozzy Osbourne's family deals with Sharon's fight with cancer, son Jack suffered minor injuries when he jumped from a pier in Malibu, Calif. Sixteen-year-old Jack and some buddies were being followed by a MTV camera crew last Wednesday when the group decided to go for a swim. The Osbournes have a hit MTV show that centers around watching America's favorite dysfunctional family live its everyday life. Lifeguards, noting that jumping from the pier is a no-no, saw Jack was in trouble and rescued him from the deep water along the pier. They gave him first aid for an injured arm and mild shock, and he was given additional treatment at a nearby hospital for what were described as "minor injuries." Sharon Osbourne underwent surgery for colon cancer on July 2, and last week disclosed the cancer had spread beyond her colon. Chemotherapy sessions begin next week.

TV 'BACHELOR' AND 'BACHELORETTE' LIVING APART

The 23-year-old woman who won ABC's reality show, "The Bachelor," has taken a job as a part-time disk jockey at a Kansas City radio station. Despite being 1,600 miles away from bachelor Alex Michel, bachelorette Amanda Marsh said she believes their love will stand up to the separation. After 23-year-old Marsh won the competition over 24 other women, the couple took up residence together in Los Angeles. But, after several job prospects did not materialize in L.A., Marsh accepted an offer to work as a disk jockey on Saturday nights for a rock station in Kansas City. She said they're both optimistic their relationship will work, and are "completely in love."

I heard on the radio today that Angelina Jolie said that she will do whatever she has to no matter how painful it is to remove the tatoos of Billy Bob on her. She has one (big one) on her arm, one on her shoulder and supposedly one in a very private area.

BILLY JOEL RIPS REHAB

Billy Joel says the substance abuse and psychiatric clinic where he spent 10 days last month did not live up its billing. The Grammy-winning entertainer told the Chicago Sun-Times that Silver Hill Hospital's reputation as "posh" is a "crock." Joel called the Connecticut facility a "dump" and said the food was "terrible." He told the Sun-Times he went into rehab after spending a period of time on his "red wine diet," in which he drinks nothing but red wine.

JULIA 'BORN TO LOVE' NEW HUBBY

Julia Roberts says she and her new husband, cameraman Danny Moder, were meant to be together. Roberts, who tied the knot with Moder July 4 at her Taos, N.M., ranch, said during an interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC's Good Morning America she "was born to love and to be the wife of this man."

The couple met during the filming of "The Mexican" last summer, just a few months after Roberts and actor Ben Bratt ended their four-year romance. Bratt has since married actress Talisa Soto. Roberts said Moder is "a man among men, unselfish and all-encompassing," and sticks by his choices. Moder was still married to makeup artist Vera Moder when he started dating Roberts. Roberts, whose marriage to singer Lyle Lovett lasted 21 months, has broken off three engagements.

'SOPRANOS' TO THE BIG SCREEN?

"The Sopranos" may hit the big screen if the HBO series wraps up its four-year run after its upcoming season. The New York Times reports producers are interested in making a movie version of the series about a New Jersey mob boss and his family -- or families. HBO still would have the option of moving the show into a fifth season, but creator David Chase has said he plans to leave after four. Stars James
Gandolfini, Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco say they'll bow out when Chase does. The show kicks off its fourth season Sept. 15.

PAMELA TAKES TIME OFF FOR HEP-C TREATMENT

Actress Pamela Anderson says she will put her career on hold to take injections to fight hepatitis C, a virus that can cause fatal liver damage. The former Baywatch star disclosed last spring she had contracted the virus by sharing a tattoo needle with her ex-husband, rocker Tommy Lee. Drummer Lee has denied her claim. Anderson said on CNN's Larry King Live she will self-inject a potent anti-viral drug up to three times a week, a treatment she compared to chemotherapy. She plans to begin the treatment in December.

CONAN TO HOST EMMY AWARDS

Conan O'Brien is moving from Late Night to primetime, if only for one night. NBC confirms the wee-hours talk show host will emcee the 54th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the first time he's hosted the event. The network said it extended an invitation to Jay Leno but the Tonight Show host was less than enthusiastic -- so the assignment went to O'Brien. NBC entertainment president Jeff Zucker said, "We think it's Conan's turn to be seen by the biggest audience that will ever see (him)..." The awards are slated to be telecast live on NBC from Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sept. 22. :p :p

MIKE MYERS STARRED ON WALK OF FAME

Saturday Night Live veteran and Austin Powers headliner Mike Myers is the latest addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Myers, known for his SNL characters and several other films -- including "Wayne's World" -- was the 2,000th to receive the honor. The Toronto native plays the central character in the wildly successful Austin Powers spy spoof, with the latest installment -- "Austin Powers in Goldmember" -- due for release Friday.

BLAKE LOSES BAIL BID

Actor Robert Blake has again been denied bail, keeping him locked up on homicide charges in the May 2001 slaying of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. The California Court of Appeals late Tuesday rejected a motion by Blake's lawyers to force a lower court judge to hold a bail hearing. The ruling backs up prosecutors' belief Blake was "laying in wait" outside the Los Angeles restaurant where Bakley was gunned down. Blake, behind bars since his April 18 arrest, pleaded innocent to charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation of murder.
