Dear Friends; the following letter on the 7-UP ad is self-explanatory, but if you haven't seen the new Dr Pepper can, it has the Pledge of Allegiance on it -except for the words "under God". Here is more "political correctness" that we must address and hit 'em hard -or else others will do worse. You will be interested to know that Christians evidently buried Daimler-Chrysler under an avalanche of e-mails a week or so ago, concerning their "wife-swapping" commercials, etc: Chrysler has pulled the ads, thanks to you!!!

Please send a letter to Dr Pepper/7-UP about the problems below. I have included "hot links" that you can click on, and you can use any or all of my letter -or write your own. In either event, please write: it's the only way we will ever stop this trash from being shown to our kids! God bless each and every one for you for caring! Lee Pemberton, Pastor CLJ

Mr Tough;

I recently observed a 7-UP commercial that I found to be both vulgar, obscene and offensive to Christians and other people of any moral persuasion: an actor is walking down a street, removing his clothes until finally he is wearing nothing but his undershorts. He removes the shorts and a crowd around him is depicted staring at him.

I have a question: is business so bad at Dr Pepper/7-UP that you must resort to filth peddling in order to make a buck? What on Earth is the connection between a fine product like 7-UP, and a pervert who takes off his clothes on a public street, and why would such a lascivious display make anyone want to run out and buy your products? Are you now touting 7-UP as the refreshment of choice for flashers and other sexual deviants who expose themselves to an unwilling audience?

And why was the phrase "under God" left out of the Pledge of Allegiance, on the new Dr Pepper can? What anti-God, anti-American heathen among your employees decided that Dr Pepper/7-UP had the right to re-write this patriotic anthem to exclude reference to the God Who caused America to become the greatest nation ever to grace the face of the Earth?

Do you honestly believe there are enough "politically-correct" Socialists and Marxists in America to keep your Company floating -after all the Christians, and other people with some measure of moral standards, stop purchasing your God-less, deviant products? You had better hope so!

Personally, I can assure you that none of your products will pollute my home or office for at least six months after you remove your prurient advertising and un-God-ly Pledge of Allegiance cans from the public view, and I will ask everyone I can contact to do likewise.

Most sincerely,
B. Lee Pemberton
Pastor

I've seen the 7-up ad, it's hilarious, they show no nudity what so ever. Guy says the best way to reach the public is expose yourself, it's a play on words, and it was done in good taste.

I've got a dr.pepper in my hand, no pledge on it:confused:

I think someone has too much free time on there hands again

they daimler-chrysler commercial is not a wife swapping commercial, its a van swapping commercial. a guy and his wife are outside, his wife is on the porch or something, and the neighbor and his wife are outside, well the guy looks over at his neighbor and yells out, hey do you swap? and the neighbor yells, sure, so the guy and his wife jump in the neighbors van and take off

Well I havn't seen the commercial or the dr. pepper can but I found this on Urban legends:

Origins: Although this item has been given renewed currency by a recent United States Court of Appeals decision regarding the constitutionality of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, the controversy regarding a special design for Dr Pepper cans that incorporated words from the Pledge of Allegiance is several months old. The limited time period during which the "new" cans were available ended months ago, and "regular" Dr Pepper cans have long since been put back on the market.

The brouhaha began in mid-November 2001, when the Dr Pepper soft drink company introduced a new can design featuring the Statue of Liberty with the words "ONE NATION . . . INDIVISIBLE" from the Pledge of Allegiance displayed above it.

The wife swapping one was a real commercial, it was rather subtle but it was still there. Two neighbors each have a mini van, I believe they are both vans, anyway one starts talking about swapping meaning cars, the other takes it the wrong way and agrees to swap wives. I am sure you have probably saw it and just not paid attention to it :)

I have not saw the dr pepper cans, hubby uses bottles, but until they re-do every piece of currency we have I don't see how they can change our pledge. We all spend money that says "in God we Trust"

I think one of my all time un-favorite commercials are ALL of the Herbal Essence shampoo commercials. Especially when they come on at all hours of the day when children are watching t.v.!

off the subject here but does anyone remember a commercial where a guy grabs on to one of the loop things to hold on and his arm comes off???? I know it sounds gross and my mouth hit the floor, but it still cracked me up and I didn't see it during the day. For some reason, I think it was a breakfast bar type of thing. Yeah commercials are getting worse.

I love the Mike's Hard Lemonade commercials (second head!)

I look at it this way, once a company does something it seems the others follow. If it gets too awful, I just won't buy the product.:D

ummmmm was it expose yourself or seeing 7 up hmmmmmmmmm (naked guy-need i say more lololol):D sorry couldn't help it:D

Like Lasher said, the 7 up ad shows no nudity, I think it's funny. I have 1 of the Dr. Pepper cans from last fall with the words "ONE NATION . . . INDIVISIBLE" on it. They weren't stopped because of complaints, it was a limited time thing anyway. That's why I saved one. "under God wasn't the only words they left out. They just used a quote from the pledge under a pic of the statue of liberty. I think they're cool. A lot of people just have way too much time on their hands & need to get a life.

Here is a quote fro Dr. Pepper:

"Due to space limitations on the can, only a few of the 31 words from the Pledge of Allegiance could be used. The available area for graphics limited the amount of verbiage on the can. Of the 31 words in the Pledge of Allegiance, only three were included. More than 90 percent were not included.
We at Dr Pepper/Seven Up strongly believe that the message on these cans is a resoundingly patriotic, bipartisan message that we are a united nation.
More than 41 million special edition cans were ordered by Dr Pepper bottlers in portions of a dozen states. Because the limited edition patriotic can is to be retired in February, you will soon see regular packaging graphics for Dr Pepper at your local retail stores."

Time magazine's 24 September 2001 cover displayed the same words but drew no significant complaints:

I hate those commercials too - I would never complain to the advertiser/station, because I believe in freedom of speech and deplore censorship, but I do really hate those commercials, and they tend to make me much less likely to buy that stupid shampoo (which makes my hair dry anyways:rolleyes: )

I hope I don't get this thread closed and I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm getting sick of these "christian" groups trying to ban everything. What right do they have telling the rest of us what we can watch on tv or what kind of music we can listen to. If you don't like what you see on tv just change the channel or turn it off. What are you doing watching tv when you're supposed to be reading your bible.

I guess we in america are just a sensitive bunch... these ppl who complain about commercials should visit europe on occasion and see that our tv/commercials are rather harmless. My husband spent his teen years in Portugal and will be the first to tell you that if you're bothered by our commercials then you are seriously lacking any kind of substance (his words, not mine), cause the commercials over there do full frontal nudity of both men and women... sometimes in commercials where it doesn't even pertain to the product being sold. Now I am not trying to be ugly... I just fail to see the big deal... it's 60 seconds at most and in general... most ppl are channel surfing rather than watching them any way.

If you ever watch those "Best Commercials You've Never Seen" shows; they show some of the tamer commercials from around the world - with little fuzzy dots & blacked out squares to protect our American sensabilites    LOL

You've all heard that Capitalistic phrase, "He who dies with the most toys, wins"? Here are some others:

Hare Krishna: He who plays with the most toys, wins.

Judaism: He who buys toys at the lowest price, wins.

Catholicism: He who denies himself the most toys, wins.

Anglican: They were our toys first.

Greek Orthodox: No, they were OURS first.

Branch Davidians: He who dies playing with the biggest toys, wins.

Atheism: There is no toy maker.

Polytheism: There are many toy makers.

Evolutionism: The toys made themselves.

Church of Christ, Scientist: We are the toys.

Communism: Everyone gets the same number of toys, and you go straight to the opposite of heaven if we catch you selling yours.

Ba'hai: All toys are just fine with us.

Amish: Toys with batteries are surely a sin.

Taoism: The doll is as important as the dumptruck.

Mormonism: Every boy may have as many toys as he wants.

Voodoo: "Let me borrow that doll for a second..."

Hedonism: Hang the rule book! Let's play!

7th Day Adventist: He who plays with his toys on Saturday, loses.

Church of Christ: He whose toys make music, loses.

Baptist: Once played always played.

Jehovah's Witnesses: He who "places" the most toys door-to-door, wins.

Pentecostalism: He whose toys can talk, wins.

Existentialism: Toys are a figment of your imagination.

Confucianism: Once a toy is dipped in water, it is no longer dry.

Non-denominationalism: We don't care where the toys came from, let's just play. :)

Too funny Lasher!

I think people read too much into things sometimes. One can find diaper commercials offensive depending on how one looks at it. It is just silly and seems that people have too much time on their hands to complain about stuff. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Then there's always:

He who dies with the most toys, still dies.

I see so many annoying commercials on TV anymore that it's impossible to choose the worst one, but those ones with Dr. Ruth are really beginning to bug me. I think they are for Herbal Essences?

I remember not to long ago within the last 5 years or so I had to complain to fox because they had a commercial that said Monday nights are a Bi*ch and they aired them during the days my kids were going around saying this and it made me hot!!
