The Current River is a popular area for float trips. My dot goes to the Huzzah all the time, and we've done the Current and the Black River. All in southeastern MO. Do a search for Black River, Current River and Huzzah and you should find all the info you want. You can rent canoes, trips are like 3 hours, 5 hours 8 hours, etc. You can also rent tubes...last time I floated, I took some of Sarah's friends (8 years ago or so) and we floated the river on tubes. They have rafts as well. The Black River is a lot tamer than the others, but nice sand bars for stopping for lunch and swimming. It's been YEARS since I've been to any of them. We were just talking about doing that later this summer!

Thanks for al the great info. I had looked online but nothing rally jumped out at me. I think we're going to try either Caplinger Mills or a place called River Ranch Resort in Noel Missouri. This will be a really interesting trip since I have NEVER been in a canoe in my life:eek: I really would rather innertube its much easier I have a feeling:) If anyone wants to meet up sometime while we are there let me know. We will be there Monday July 15 - Wednesday July 17 I think.

I have never been canoeing either...but I know from where I live in SE Kansas, a LOT of people go to Noel, and have very high recommendations for it. Have fun!

I live in Kansas City...I have floated several rivers here. In fact, i just got back last weekend from floating the Eleven Point River.

The most scenic would be the Jack's Fork, which is a tributary of the Current River, which is nice as well. I love the Jack's Fork and have floated it several times.

The Eleven Point is great and has several waterfalls, caves to explore, and springs.

I believe the Current hosts the most springs in Missouri.

If you want a party river, float the Niangua. I did not care for it too much, I thought it was a bit too crowded for my tastes, and there is mostly private ground surrounding the River. I also thought it was dirtier than most, as cows would get in the river from nearby farms and well, do their business. However, if you want a party river, that is the place to go.

On our last excursion, I only saw two other canoes the whole day on our float trip (Eleven Point), and personally, that is best, because you can relax and take in the beauty.

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, just ask! I can probably give you the answer.

Hey eeigh33---we just spent the day at Longview Lake Thursday! Love Kansas City area. Not canoeing...but the tame stuff--on a pontoon boat with a friend.

I've been on the Current River, that was a good time. Black River was so low we had to carry our canoe a lot. Huzzah was great, also. OH, the Meramec (sp) was the best!!! There were cows in the water and everything! lol!! That's where our canoe capsized and scared the living chit out of me!!! They are fun, but BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!

i also like the current river, but man oh man that water is cold. LOL i live right on the sac river and it used to be nice to canoe on, but it has gone down hill a lot over the last few years. i think we spent more time carrying the canoe than anything else and there were so many trees in the water that we had to try to avoid.

Definitely go on the Huzzah in Steelville and if you can, get the rafts instead of the canoes, you won't regret it. There is one in Lees Summit that's lots of fun too. We went camping there in November and they've got a huge campground for overnight.

The last float trip I went on was on the Meramec through Meramec Caverns -- an overnight float and I had the best time.

My husband and his best friends go every year through one of the Huzzah river resorts. My family is from Steelville which makes me a little biased, but the people are incredibly nice and the rates are very good.

Have fun!
