www.adoptaplatoon.org

I know posted this in a reply to another thread but thought maybe i should post it seperately.

with adopt a platoon you can sign up to be a pen pal for soldiers and send letters and occasional care packages, or you can "adopt" a soldier and send weekly letters and a monthly care package. i do this and its great.

FIXED THE LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are they still doing this?? I know that on my hubby's ship they are being really strict about packages coming in for unknown people, are even being suspicious of schoolchildren sending letters to the ship.

I read on one of the news web sights that all of these programs have been cancelled. The descision was made because of the anthrax in the mail. They don't want mail coming in that is from strangers and thus has the potential for carrying some sort of bio agent. Sorry

Some places have stopped allowing mail not addressed to a specific soldier and some places haven't. I think it depends on the decision of the commander. I know that here at Ft Campbell it has to be assresses to a specific person or it will be sent back. It worth trying though.

you have to include ADOPT-A-PLATOON IN YOUR RETURN ADDY that way they know where it came from.

I just thought I would let everyone know that I have gotten a couple letter back from my soldier. It was really nice to hear from him.
Does anyone know how long we do this for, just curious.
Thanks

I don't remember how long I had my soldier...it wasn't a long time. He wrote me a few letters and when he came back to the states, he wrote me a letter that was sooo nice thanking me for thinking of him. It's a great thing to do!

We got our soldier from adopt a platoon a few weeks ago. It is well worth it and a great way to support our troops.!!

I agree completely, it is so self rewarding I think, It makes me feel good, to make someone elses day.
