I used to work with a girl that had a bi-racial daughter (black/white) and was racist against blacks. And I was also in school with a bi-racial guy whose mother (white) was prejudice against blacks, yet she was married to one. It happens and I really don't understand how... it doesn't make sense.
I will admit that I haven't been following the coverage on this massacre very closely. It is, however, quite disturbing to me. Whatever his "reasons" for the killing spree, it basically boils down to the fact that he had mental issues that should have been addressed. I heard (from someone else) that there had been questions raised about him while he was still at Walter-Reid and instead of taking him out of service and/or a counseling position, they transferred him. I really think this is a shame, that those in higher positions continued to let someone who expressed views such as his to continue to counsel soldiers coming back from Muslim countries until he snapped. I agree, not all Muslims are bad, not all deserve to die. The same as with any race, there are good people as well as bad, people with uncontrolled mental disorders (that cause situations such as Columbine and Virginia Tech) and people who are able to deal with whatever issues they face. To stereotype like the OP's friend did is wrong and it's part of what is wrong with society today - NO race can be grouped together and blanketed by a generalized, often ignorant statement.

And English lessons. It should be 'accept' not 'except' Big difference. It does fit well with the whole "I'm a moron" vibe though.

I almost pity people like your friend that has so much hatred towards fellow man.
I wonder if he would change his tune if he were to ever be sick and have his life saved by a doctor or nurse, or a good Samaritan that was a minority.

Being too politically correct can get people killed. (It has already, many times over.)
The signs where there, but stupidity and pressure "not to offend" allowed it to happen.
It's ridiculous when we are forced to ignore what is obvious.
Too bad no one took the chance to hurt this animal's feelings, 13 people would be alive and many would not be injured right now.

I totally agree with this, and seeing the guys business card that was in Jolie's MIA post the signs were there that should have set off the alarms of WHOOP WHOOP CRAZY MAN ON THE PROWL!
I did read an article stating the FBI was going to look into the probe they did on him a year or so ago, so they KNEW this guy was bonkers and he was talking to someone with ties to Al-qaeda but since he was only asking for what they call "spiritual" advise they let it slide?

I was only expressing my opinions and showing how - as the investigation continues - I formed that opinion.
Was it wrong for the "friend" of the OP to make blanket assumptions based on hearing the man's name - possibaly; can I understand why he made those assumptions - yes. Sad state of the world we have today.
Exit question : I have a Scout who - on a dare - scrapped a swastika on his hand hard enough to leave a permanent scar ! Is this considered "racist" ?
Side note : child in question is 13 and the child of a "mixed race" couple. Can I tell you his parents are beyond furious ? I suggestted his punishment include some historical research.

Compare and contrast :

On Sunday, the US Army's chief of staff cautioned against drawing hasty conclusions about Hasan's faith. Focusing on the Islamic roots of Hasan could "heighten the backlash" against all Muslims in the military, said Gen. George Casey, appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Last Thursday, Hasan reportedly yelled "Allahu Akbar" – "God is great" in Arabic – before allegedly opening fire on soldiers ...

How can we seperate his faith from his actions ? ( rather his interpitation of his faith ...)
Would we be having the same conversation if this was some Fundamentalist Southern Baptist wackjob shouting "Jesus is the only way to salvation!" ??

I despise that since 9/11, people feel somehow justified to make assumptions about Muslims. It is not justifiable to discriminate against anyone due to the actions of others. So, for the people who think, "Oh, gee...well, after the 9/11 attacks it's only natural to wonder...." That is BULL.
Regarding the FB thing, cut the fat. Get rid of someone who you used to know who is like that. I have done it twice. One of my son's classmate's mom is racist, and I got rid of her. The other, some guy from my high school, gets political. When that video came out of the young children singing the song about Obama, he said, "I don't hit women, but if that woman was my kid's teacher, I would send my wife to beat the sh*t out of her." That was it. He's gone. Get rid of the guy so you don't have to read any more of that garbage.
