You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I had a similar problem with mine a few years ago. I had a large tumor in the right side of mine that was pressing on my windpipe and vein. It was so bad I was struggling to breath by the time they found it. The doctor took the right side, the bridge, and part of the left side. I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't hurt because it does. I'm going to give you a piece of advice. Don't try to sleep in a bed the first few days. Sleep sitting up in a recliner. Use the pain pills. As far as meds you can get the $4 generic at most stores. I have insurance and don't even use it because the generic synthroid is cheaper at Drug Mart or Giant Eagle. I'm sure Walmart would have it as one of their generics too but it is too far from me. I know you are afraid but you are going to be fine. I'm the biggest baby in the world and did ok with it. Take the milking it for all it is worth lessons. You deserve to be pampered after it.

My cousin had to have her thyroid removed due to cancer when she was 20 - she is in her early 40's now and has no problems from it. Yes you do have to take 1 pill a day for the rest of your life but like others pointed out there are generics. Keeping you and the Dr's in my prayers. And yes it is time to "retrain" that DH. I bet he is more scared than you are so at least talk to him about it and let him know you will need his help.

My daughter had a big nasty goiter a few years ago. It was removed and she's done fine since. Her recovery wasn't too bad. It took her a while to find the proper medication but once she did it's been smooth sailing ever since.
