To me, this wouldnt matter. Its assault and if the kid is always in trouble at school, then yeah, something else needs to be done. JMO.

I would take him to a doctor to be examined first off. Bruised ribs can be broken ribs that can puncture a lung whcih can be fatal.
Then I would call the police & have your sons statement taken. Then I would contact the school.
If the school does not do anything contact the superintendent.
Make as much noise as you can!!! Your poor son! No one deserves to get hit like that & I do not care how old the other child is.
Hope your son is ok.

call the police for sure just because his ribs might not bruise on the outside they might bruise on the inside. Plus you need to teach that little punk a lesson that he can't go around doing that crap and get away with it.

I agree with this. To me, it wouldn't make one bit of difference if there was a visable bruise or not, I would still involve the police. That kid needs some serious punishment.

I agree with loris....I cracked my ribs before, and there were no marks at all on the outside.

Take him to the doctor and then file a complaint with the police. It is widely known that schools usually do not take bullying seriously enough.
A child teased changes who they are. Ron Reagan had a show on fox where a student and parents documented the changes that occured in their son who was bullied. He went from a normal, happy child to one who twitched, had many ticks and stuttered. Not funny.
Always report any act of violence.

I walk up and come to find out another 6th grader had taken his hat. he went to get it, and it was thrown on the ground and that boy and an 8th grader started grinding in the dirt with their feet. My son nudged the 8th grader to get him off of it so he could pick it up.
The 8th grader proceded to throw my son to the ground and kicked him in the ribs.
I spoke with the school, my son says his ribs hurt. They are going to investigate further, but have witnesses that saw what happened.
What would you do, would you let the school handle it, or would you go further and contact the police?
Some of the girls who witnessed it says the boy is always being suspended for just such a thing.

I would definitely call the police. The school may not do anything about it. My daughter was assaulted by a girl (hair pulled, shoved to the ground, kicked in the ribs), they caught it on video, and the school didn't do anything about it. Unfortunately, around here, if there's an issue at the schools, if you call the police they tell you to contact the school police officer, who is as useless as wet toilet paper. That girl never got into trouble, except for being told not to do that again.

If they continue to get away it then the violence can escalate. Just because he wasn't hurt badly this time does not mean he (or the next victim) won't be hurt more severely next time. Put a stop to it now.
