I have the same problem with my ex BIL! In fact, he just called me on Friday because he got a call saying that I hadnt paid the monthly bill and it was late. I just forgot. He totally chewed me out for not paying on time.....yet HE hasnt paid me in YRS. I put him on our family plan because, after he bought the phone, it was only going to be 4.99 a month-he hated cell phones and said he was never going to use it. We wanted him to have one just in case. Well now he is ADDICTED to his cell. He racks up a ton of minutes, mostly for work. HE gets reimbursed for the work calls but doesnt actually give the money to ME. He keeps it!!!! I want to get him off the plan but I have to wait until next Feb because he bought a new phone earlier this yr (without my knowledge)....and it had a 1 yr contract!

The kicker....he has a really good paying and stable job, has for yrs. I am currently not working. Yet he has the NERVE to chew me out for not paying MY bill on time. I told him in Feb, he is on his own-a LONG time coming.

Lesson learned!

Good luck with you situation.
You must not be through Verizon, when we were in the verizon store one time a lady was very upset because she wanted to get a new phone (updated phone). The guy had to keep telling her she could not do anything to the phone because the plan was not in her name, she stormed out of there. Maybe you can call verizon and ask if they can block that number from anything and everything, see if they can cut him off at such amount of minutes...So he does not rack up the minutes and bill for you. Also make sure that you and only you can upgrade a phone.

I know I can only 'suspend' them for 30 days...my contract isnt up until Dec.7. when my contract is up I have NO plans of renewing, so with that will they be slid to their own contract? god I hope so! because then that means I could 'suspend" them Nov. 7 and run it to when my contract runs out!! Im going to go tomorrow morning, I will let you all know what happens...that way others who read this will know.

Thank you all for the good advice, knew if anyone could help it would be people from here! thank you!

ps. hope no one else has to go through this!

Say the phones have been stolen and have them freeze that phone and order another one, you will have to pay the $10 a month but they wont be able to use it and you wont be charged a penality

you need to do cancel their phones and accesses to your account ,

Not really sure they will work with you on a payment plan. The best thing to do is call them NOW and have those phones shut off immediately.
they can walk into any store that handles your account and up date that phone with a new one and your stuck , so get them off and cancel any remaining contract , you ll have to pay the rest of the contract but you wount get stuck if they try to keep them otherways.
been there , done that.

Even if you have to pay the remaining contract, it's probably going to be cheaper than all of the overages. Get these dead beats off your credit rating!

You are stuck between a rock & a hard place, You can take them to small claims court & most likely you will win but if they don't have any property of value the win means nothing. You can go after a wage garnishment but if they don't have a job then you can't get anything.

There is one option & I am working with my attorney to see if I can legally do this. When you do your income taxes for 2009, take that money as a "gift" & send your friend a 1099 form & they will have to pay taxes on that money. Now I am not certain if this is 100% legal or not but I have my attorney looking into this matter.

I had a friend to this to me & my credit is majorly screwed & I even have the police reports.

My problem is that I can't find where he is living to serve him with small claims.

thanks, that would be helpful if I had the money to do all of that!
I hope it works out for you. I wanted to go down there this morning but boyfriend left for work before I could get the car so got to wait til tonight maybe...
I know where she lives...for now...but another problem im running into with this plan is, I have not worked this year, so I dont have to file taxes, my dad is claiming my children sense we lived with him 9 months out of this year and he paid for everything...so that would be hard to do with not having to file taxes.

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess im just out and stuck in a corner with no real way out.

Nope. It's all going to be on you. They aren't going to care WHO ELSE is using the phones...all they care about is whose name the contract is in...and that's you.

I know Verizon will not let anyone but the account holder update any phone that is on a account. The account holder has to be the one to update a phone, If a store will update a phone to someone that is not the account holder then it should not be valid and Verizon (company not a side store that sells verizon phones) should be able to do something about it because it was done without your authorization.

Before you go issuing a 1099 you might want to make a call to the friendly little place called the IRS. Unless you are using a tax attorney I would not touch that idea with a 10 foot pole. You not only have to send them a 1099 you have to send the IRS a 1096 along with the 1099 not just attach it to your tax return. Not as easy as you might have thought so call 1-800-829-1040 and ask the tax experts before you do something that might not get the result you want. Any good attorney that does not specialize in taxes would have advised you to call the IRS first. You must also have the persons Social Security number to put on the 1099 form.

OP you need to call Verizon and let them know that you will be canceling those phones on the expiration date of the contract or they will just be there on your plan and you will have to pay for them even after the contract expires. Verizon will ask you if you know anyone who would be interested in keeping those numbers and then you could give them the dead beats phone number if you chose to - otherwise just say NO.

Not true....you can have someone on your Verizon account that has COMPLETE access. Or they can make some changes, but not much. It has to be complete access though.
