I hate reactions to medication

DH is already on several medications (around 10, give or take a few), and he started a new one last week, called Neurontin. Unfortunately, he was one of the few rare ones that has the severe reactions, which include hostility, anger, mood swings. It has been he** here since Friday because of this, and not realizing until yesterday afternoon late that he was having side effects to the medication, since he is terminally ill and tends to be moody anyway.

He said some really really mean, rude and hateful things about me during this time to a good friend of mine, and my mother. I do understand that is was caused by the medication, but I'm having a hard time getting the memory out, and now today he wants to be "close".

Sometimes, it all feels like it is more than I can keep doing.

Just a vent, that's all.

I am sorry you are going through this. I couldnt even imagine having a terminally ill DH. Even though you know his anger was caused my medications, it doesnt take out the sting of what he said. Words do hurt, whether they were meant to be said or not. Take care of yourself and God bless

I am sorry also, and totally understand what you are going through...... I am on a million medications too and am on a mission to find the right one. I have had some serious side effects also in my trials. I have been REALLY cranky, had what it seemed to be restless leg thing, and the big one for me is weight gain ! My family has really been there for me but it has been hard for them for sure.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I hope if he doesn't need that drug they can find one that works better for him. I really hope things settle down for you. Words can be very hurtful sometimes thats for sure.

I would check and see if they can prescribe a different medication that works the same but not have those side effects.

My husband has stage IV colon cancer, has been going thru chemo, and has lost sensation to his fingers and toes. They just prescribed the same medication your husband is on and thankfully, no side effects. They did say if this one didn't work or if he had any side effects, they would give him a different one.

My prayers are with you.

Thank you ALL for the very kind words and hugs. It really does mean more than you know.

When his doctor called yesterday in response to the page, she had us stop the medication immediately, and she will be looking for something different for him at his appointment on Tuesday.

He's had a reaction to Regulan, Morphine, Phenergan, Coreg, all Penicillin's, Doxycycline, and now Neurontin. Kinda bad for someone who is on as much meds as he is.

Special K, my thoughts are with you and your husband as I know you have to be going through a lot of the same things---and probably more.

Msginna, I hope they find answers for you soon. I know it is as frustrating for you as it is your family. But it means a lot to have them there for you.

Fleabones, pepperpot, and Gmyers, those words and hugs mean so much today. They really do. Thank you.

Neurontin is one of worse medications I have ever been on. It was even worse than Oxycotin.
I would call the sensation like going lightspeed & being stopped by a frying pan. You have the sensation of flying & numb at the same time. You have zero concentration. It is near impossible to drive.

Under no circumstances should he stop taking it by himslef. If he decided Neurontin isn't for him, he has to inform his doctor & be taken off it gradually. I was on it for 2 years so I know first-hand how this med makes you feel. They may then give him Lyrica which is "supposed" to be the new neurontin w/o the said-effects. Trust me, they lie.
there are so many of them & I tried them all. I have learned to live with & deal with the pain.

{{Hugs**** to your hubby. Hope he feels better soon.

Thank you for your feedback about the medication. His doctor called us yesterday afternoon and said stop until she sees him on Tuesday. They gave him this med for uncontrollable movements of his hands and legs. It made it worse along with the other problems! Im sorry that you deal with the bad effects of it too. It was hard to even convince him to call the doctor and ask what to do about it. I finally called myself...He is calmer today and keeps saying he didnt know that medicine would do that much to him.....Hopefully if he is prescribed something else, its not just as bad.. :-(
