The only thing she would be upset about is how long it took you to file... but you can explain that just by the fact that he sent the dog away.
I know ppl think it's silly... but hey, just cause it's on tv doesn't mean you won't get the justice you deserve.

It is not a silly idea, but would she have to pay her own transportation to get there? I looked on the site, and there is just a simple submission form and then someone contacts you. I think that the situations in this case would be right up production's alley.

You know, I wouldn't have a clue... I guess the only way to find out would be to submit your information and find out.

Actually I believe on court shows like Judge Judy they not only fly you out but they put you up in a hotel and pay you as well. If not then claim legal expenses and deduct it on your taxes.

Thanks everyone for your help. Judge Judy would be interesting, but I am so not a tv type person. I agree though, I think she would have a field day with this one. I think I'm going to try the small claims court. I can handle $50, especially if I can get back the money for the vet bills. I really hate to have to be going through this. I always try to be one of those people that tries to understand that things happen beyond our control, and if he would never have brought the dog back that would have been the end of it. But for him to just say, well I have no other option but for her to live here is just him taking advantage of me and the type of person that I am, and that just pisses me off.

You should have called your local police and/or animal control immeditately!! Thank God your dog is okay now but it could have been your kids too. And $3000 is a lot to pay because of your irresponsible neighbors. I don't know what good it would do trying to sue them at this point since you didn't call the proper authorities to begin with, but I wish you the best!

Ok, I need some advice now. I am wanting now to go to court, get my money for the bills, and get the dog gone. What would be the best way to do that? I don't have money for a lawyer outright, and I know there are some who won't charge you until you get your money, but I've had a few friends go through divorces in the last few years and have seen how crazy expensive lawyers are. I don't want to go to court only to inccure tons of lawyer and court fees. Is there a better way to do it?

You missed my whole point entirely. You say this is the first time this dog has attacked, so you didn't want to do anything. The guy says the dog is going away so there again you say why do anything. Either way you need to report this dog, so if and when this happens again there can be repercussions for this dog and it's owner. The next time this dog attacks it could be a person, like a child and it could be worse than just injuries, it could mean a death. Hopefully you will report this dog before the time limit is up. You should have called animal control and reported this to begin with and then decide how to go about getting your money back for the damages. I can't believe your actually more concerned about getting your money back than actually maybe preventing this dog from hurting again, or killing. It would only cost you the court costs, which are not that much, and more than likely since you were in your own yard when this happened the defendant would be found guilty. Get off your duff and report this dog before he kills one of your damn kids.

I don't know why you feel the need to be so rude to me about this. I wasn't the only one who didn't report this. They were at the original vets office with me, had to give me a ride there actually because my husband was at work and had to meet us there, paid the first vet bill and told the nurses and doctors what happened. They all knew the dog because this is the vet where that dog normally went. They didn't report it either.
And yes I didn't report it when he sent it away because the problem would be gone. This dog had stayed with his mother numerous times, and to my knowledge there were never any issues.
Thank you for assuming I'm only in this for the money, but you are wrong. I know that when this goes to court the dog will most likely be delt with. So, that is not another issue to me since it will all come out. I did say, maybe you missed it, that I do want my money back, but I also want something done about the dog. If money was all that I cared about I would have taken them to court straight away, even though he was getting rid of the dog.
Again thanks so much for being compassionate and bringing up the possible danger to my kids in such a rude way. If all you were going to do was berate me, you could have just passed my post by.

I would think the vet would have a legal and moral responsibility to report this attack as well. Oh well, not everyone does the right thing right. Sorry you think I am berating you but you are the one that is hemming and hawing about how to go about getting your money back instead of actually reporting the attack. My first concern would be the safety of my children as well as others. Just because the dog was staying with the owners mother does not mean he wouldn't be able to attack again either, so problem not solved. Please just report the dog, at least do your part in protecting the other people in your area as well as your own.

You mean the problem for you would be gone. The dog is still a problem and should have been reported right away, whether they helped with any bills or not. For the safety of other dogs and people. The dog has shown to be aggressive and that needed to be documented.

you need to call your local sherriffs office right now,and report this dog, then you need to get documentation from your vet, also if you didnt take pics of the bites that happened to your puppy, you need to at least take pics of the scars, all can be used as proof for your case, you need to document the days at the vet,and all check ups,any meds the puppy was on,and how long, anything you had to do to help your puppy survive, should be documented
please call the police now, this dog could kill next time,as stated by another post here, once they get the taste of blood, they will attack agian.
good luck to you

Hi, I don't think that person meant to be rude. I do agree with him though, thankfully your dog made it and is doing awesome now, but you see so many on Judge shows that the dog doesn't make it and it is very sad. It isn't a matter of it the dog is going to attack, it is a matter of when because obviously this dog is aggressive and the dog can't help it if that is the way the dog was raised but the other dogs, pets, children and even adults should be afraid of being attacked. Definitely listen to everyone else and call a lawyer and call to get the dog taken away. They obviously don't care at all because if they did, they would come to check on your dog and they would make some kind of effort to pay you back even a little bit at a time. Good luck and keep us informed. I'm glad your dog is good now )
