The nerve of some garage salers!
Today was the 1st day of our neighborhood garage sale and I have had enough with the rude arse people who show up. They all want something for nothing, are rude beyond belief, stealing etc etc. Geez Louise! I priced my stuff fairly low because I just want it gone. I have a lot of items that are brand new in the box-never opened and price tag still on. I had a set of 12 water goblets that was originally marked at $29. I priced it for $8 and some woman wanted me to let her have it for $1! ONE dollar!!! And when I said no, how about $6 (which I really didnt want to do) she go MAD and started telling me how UNREASONABLE I was. There were a TON of hagglers! UGH Then their were the ones who try stealing everything! My next door neighbor is a Chicago cop (homicide detective but still a cop LOL). Today was his day off and he spent it running security for our block. One guy had clothing shoved underneath his shirt and tried to walk way even though he looked like he was 9 months pg and had a pant leg sticking out from underneath the shirt! And then their are the people who ask to use your bathroom! HELLO!!!!!!!!! One woman asked me why when I said no....uhm...BECAUSE! She wouldnt give up, telling me she really had to go. Thats when my dogs showed up! LOL
OMG! 2 more days left of this......I will not make it. I feel like just leaving it all out in the alley and letting the vulchers fight over it all.

I would pack up my things and donate them. No way in the world would I let a yard sale upset me. I wish you lots of luck for the next 2 days. You are way more tolerant then me.

Thats why when I go to garage sales I either buy it at the price marked or I dont buy it at all. I dont like giving people a hard time.

That is rude! I cannot believe those ppl. I barely go to yard sales these days but I do haggle, but I'm not rude about it. It's up to the seller if they want to accept that price or not and it's up to me if I want to pay it - bottom line. There is never any reason to be rude. And as far as ppl stealing, how low. I don't know how some can deal w/ their conscience b/c I wouldn't be able to live w/ myself knowing I stole from someone.

Sounds like it has all been more trouble then it is worth, I would do what Yankee said and donate the items to the salvation army or goodwill where you know it will make a difference. I am sorry, yard sales are supposed to be fun, I am a die hard haggler but in a very respectful way.

Easter Seals is the ones to donate to. They give REAL Nice tax deduction slips.
So sorry your having a bad sale. I went today and found lots of deals. I'm not one to haggle either. If its priced to high I just walk away.
Maybe today was all the nut jobs lol. I would put up a sign that says all prices firm! When someone tries that crap just point to the sign.

My sister and I had a garage sale last weekend. We did great, over $700 between the 2 of us. BUT, like you, we had someone steal jewelry. We never would have known it, but they took the stuff out of the ziploc bags my sister had it in and just left the bags. I usually won't go lower on prices during the first few hours, but if someone asks, I'll tell them that if it is still there at the end of the sale, I'll go down on it. Then it is up to them to decide if they want to chance the item being gone.
Good luck with what's left of your sale!

I haggle as well but I would NEVER offer $1 for something that had $8 on it. I know my limitations. If something is marked $10 and I am only willing to pay $5 I'll probably just leave because chances are the people won't take that price for it.
And STEALING!!???? Now that is just absurd.

I HATE it when people haggle. Obviously if I put $1 on something I am wanting $1 for it. If I wanted to sell it for $.50 I would have marked it $.50. I usually get lucky and have a yard sale with another person or two and I just tell them that it's my sister's and she's not here so I can't really change the price.

The worse I had was a woman who came in with her kids. She let her kids take things and go to the car. When it was time to add things up she just gave me what she was buying and left. I wasn't going to confront her but I did stand in the driveway as she was driving off and gave her the evil eye. She just laughed.
